Great Library

The Great Library should also act as a Library. Its kind of dumd to have to build a library in your city after you already have a Great Library in the city. What? the common people cant use it?

Good point, except that building a regular library will give you extra culture. However, you can look at it this way. The Great Library is the national library, while the regular library is the city library. Take Washington D.C. for example: it has the Library of Congress (which I would consider a modern day Great Library), and it also has a city library.

I get what your saying, but it just makes it less complicated the way it is set up, plus the Great Library becomes obsolete, would that mean if it acted as a regular library that it wouldn't work anymore?

Yeah, I agree the Great Library should also act as a library.... Just like Newton's University should act like a University.

Well, the Great Wall DOES act like a wall now - in all cities. That was a change in Conquests.

I like them separate too. It's a minor inconvenience to build an extra improvement, but it's just a lot simpler.

I'm not sure if I got your question here...

The GL does not act as a library and does not offer free libraries. If you build the GL and library in the same city, they both exist, function independently, and generate culture points. Nothing happens to the library if you build the GL later.

i think what he means is IF great library acted as a library and you build a library in a city then build the great library in that smae city. what would happen.

America: i assume the same that would happen if you built a barracks, then got Sun Tzu's: you'd have the building, but without pay a gold per turn for it, and you could probably (like Sun Tzu's) sell off those that you built previously, getting a few coins back in your treasury, and have it immediately replaced by the wonder-generated building.

In the City VIew, lower left hand side. You can right-click (I think) on an improvement, and get the option to sell the building for a given sum of money.
