I had, at first, considered posting an elimination thread for every Great Person in the game, but since such a thread would almost certainly never end, I've decided instead to concentrate on one of the more powerful classes of Great People; Great Engineers, Scientists, Generals, and Admirals would all merit threads of their own, as well. The same rules employed in the other elimination threads are applied here; subtract three points from one you dislike, add one point to one you like, and provide some rationale for your decisions.

1) You can vote every 24 hours
2) Give a reason each time you vote for why you chose as you did.
3) Don't comment in the thread unless your post involves this voting unless someone has made a typo in voting scores or removed someone from the list prior to them running out of points.

Colaeus — 20
Marcus Licinius Crassus — 20
Zhang Qian — 20
Piero de' Bardi — 20
Irene of Athens — 20
Marco Polo — 20
Jakob Fugger — 20
Giovanni de' Medici — 20
Raja Todar Mal — 20
John Jacob Astor — 20
Adam Smith — 20 + 1 = 21. The prohibitive favorite, for obvious reasons.
John Spilsbury — 20
Sarah Breedlove — 20
Mary Katherine Goddard — 20 – 3 = 17. The only Great Merchant without a tangible economic effect, and easily one of the least helpful Great People in the game. She needs another ability; at the moment, a higher level of diplomatic access doesn't offer any sort of advantage.
John D. Rockefeller — 20
Melitta Bentz — 20
Helena Rubinstein — 20
Levi Strauss — 20
Masaru Ibuka — 20

Masaru Ibuka — 20
Estée Lauder — 20

Colaeus — 20
Marcus Licinius Crassus — 17 (20-3) weak. A free tile and 60 gold. The two other classical GMs are so much better.

Adam Smith — 21
John Spilsbury — 21
Sarah Breedlove — 21 (20+1) this one makes a noticeable difference when going for a CV.
Mary Katherine Goddard — 14 Why should this one be the first to go? It's too late of course, the ability per se is quite good, it should just come in medieval times...

@person above: Actually, Marcus Licinius comes with two or three charges (I don't recall), so he's better than that. I got him one game and could grab a couple of resources in fourth circle to some of my cities - quite useful.

Colaeus — 20

Irene of Athens — 20
Marco Polo — 20
Jakob Fugger — 20
Giovanni de' Medici — 20
Raja Todar Mal — 20
John Jacob Astor — 20
Adam Smith — 22 (21+1) MUST HAVE. One of the best GP in the game, second probably only to the ones like Carl Sagan.
John Spilsbury — 21
Sarah Breedlove — 21
Mary Katherine Goddard — 11 (14-3) Diplomatic visibility - who cares? I seem to get plenty of information already as it is.

Helena Rubenstein — 21
Levi Strauss — 20
Masaru Ibuka — 20
Estée Lauder — 20

I usually don't do this game, but...

Colaeus — 20
Marcus Licinius Crassus — 15 (14+1) Justice for Crassus! He actually comes with 3 charges (I just had him) and given that he is likely to come early, it can be quite useful.

Irene of Athens — 20

Colaeus — 20
Marcus Licinius Crassus — 15
Zhang Qian — 21 (20+1) %75 of my games are Egypt, I have a dream of one day getting both Zhang and Marco in one city and attracting all the trade and bathing in gold.
Piero de' Bardi — 17 (20-3) The weakest out of a series of bad great people. Eveyone else can at least give you some unique benefit you could not otherwise gain. two turn's worth of gold and an envoy though? Toss this guy into the ocean with all his gold+envoy pals please. If I often don't even bother to build a spearman to get an envoy, no way is it worth a whole great person.

edit on the minus, I failed at basic maths. oops.

Glad to see the thread continue. Let's resume with the scores that had accumulated when it first closed.

Colaeus — 20
Marcus Licinius Crassus — 12
Zhang Qian — 21 - 3 = 18. The additional trade route is always helpful, but against the computer, at least, you're unlikely to benefit much from an additional two gold per foreign trade route.
Piero de' Bardi — 17
Irene of Athens — 20
Marco Polo — 20
Jakob Fugger — 20
Giovanni de' Medici — 20
Raja Todar Mal — 20
John Jacob Astor — 20
Adam Smith — 23
John Spilsbury — 21
Sarah Breedlove — 21
Mary Katherine Goddard — 2
John D. Rockefeller — 20 + 1 = 21. As great as Adam Smith is, Rockefeller has decided many games for me; because of the surprising scarcity of oil, recruiting him might be the difference between being the only player with tanks rather than knights. An additional two gold per strategic resource can be extremely powerful, as well, and neatly complements Raja Todar Mal's ability.

I'm quite surprised to see Mary Katherine Goddard to be the first eliminated. In my opinion, she isn't that bad. Or maybe I overestimate the diplomatic access?
