Great Philosophers

So Civ VI has all tons of great people: Great Prophet can find Religion, Great Scientist - tech, etc.

And when it comes to Civics Tree, same way as other Great Ppl, make sense that Great Philosopher(there were tons of them around the globe at all times) can find/boost any Civic from tree.
Current game Great Wonders mostly focused on Tourism, they can also provide w/ Great Philosopher points.
May be even to add some Agora-alike unique buildings to some civilizations.
Libraries also could be a Great Philosopher point creator.

To get the idea: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_philosophers

The thing is, the culture district, Theater Square, already has Great Writers, Artists and Musicians, so there's no place anymore for Great Philosophers, so to say.

I'd suggest one source of Great Philosopher points could be from having Campus/Holy Site/Theatre squares adjacent to each other, since philosophy plays a role in all three. (Perhaps after the discovery of Economics, that could be expanded to include Commercial Hubs too.)

Great Philosophers, IMO, need to come from Science District (Libraries), not Theater Square.
Does anyone from Great Writers, Artists and Musicians boost/discover Civics? So should be w/ Great Philosophers.

That would be weird though. You build a science district, and get bonuses to your culture. No, you should make a mixed district then.

I mean, the idea is good, but you have to put it ingame in a way that fits.

I am currently under the impression Great Philosophers should fall under the category of Great Writers.

They just need to give the great writers/artists/musicians more different flavors and functions. They are way too bland right now which I don't even care.

In the past I've proposed that GWs be reworked into Great Philosophers who still produce a Great Works of Writing, but also have other effects (triggering inspirations, granting lump sums of culture, ect). I think they should essentially be to the civics tree what Great Scientists are to the tech tree. Your Shakespeares and Poes can still produce two Great Works, but your Lockes and Humes should have other, more utilitarian uses that help players pursuing non-Culture victories.

This is the list of Philosophers of Science:

Pick any 10 and check WHERE they were teaching and inventing their theories.

Surprise-surprise, cheers

Look, I don't deny there's good reason to add Great Philosophers. The thing is, it just doesn't fit into the game right now, because all specialty districts (all districts that have to do with a yield plus encampment and harbor) have their own Great Person. If you'd add Great Philosophers, you'd have to either remove Great Writers/Artists/Musicians (which leaves the question how cultural victory is gonna work) or you add them (which means that you just get too many great people from Theater Squares; they already have higher point generation than other districts if you add everything up) or you rework them in some way, which leaves the question, how are you going to make them as strong as Great Scientists while giving them the ability to create Great Works without having them be overpowered because they do double stuff? If you have an answer to these problems, then they're a great addition to the game. Until then, they're a great idea but not a good addition.

Leyrann,

Great Philosophers(GP) has nothing to do w/ Theater Squares, at all. GPs mostly worked in the Universities or Libraries, so they belong to Science District only, and GPs will be just another bonus to achieve the Science Victory. Very simple.

They have a lot to do with Theater Squares, for no other reason than that they are related to advancing through the civic tree.

Science = Campus
Culture = Theater Square
Faith = Holy Site
Gold = Commercial Hub
Production = Industrial Zone
Land units = Encampment
Naval units = Harbor
Fresh Water = Aquaduct
Amenities = Entertainment District
Housing = Neighborhood
Air units = Aerodome
Space flight = Spaceport

Being an "="-sign, this counts both ways, of course.

This is simply how the game is made up right now; every district is connected to one yield (or similar things like housing or a type of units) and every yield (or similar thing) is connected to one district. If you want a Great Person that grants civic bonuses, you have to connect it to the Theater Square, as that's the culture/civic district. Otherwise all districts are about one thing, and the campus is, at once, about two things (both science and cultural advancement), simply making the Theater Square redundant for everyone not actively pursueing a cultural victory, just like Holy Sites are for everyone not pursueing a religious victory. And this despite culture being an essential yield to advance through the era's.

Once again, great idea, but doesn't fit into the game right now.

I see, that's where the issue is, IMO, thanks for elaborating on it.

well than, just to clarify, why fourth type of GP like Philosophers could not be accommodate into existing Theater Square ?

Because, to me at least, this would overload the Theater District, with four different Great People coming from it.

That said, I do believe there's parts of the district system that aren't up to the mark, and I feel that most strongly in regards to the Theater Square and (to a lesser extent) the Entertainment Complex. I think it would not be a bad thing to shuffle things around a bit and have one culture focused district and one art/entertainment focused district. Basically, Theater Square would gain Great Philosophers and culture generation, while Entertainment Complex would get Great Writers/Artists/Musicians and amenities (which could maybe even made a part of great works). It would require a cultural victory rework though.
