Grettings!

I had begun updating my site, after realising that there is a consistent stream of visitors who go straight to the RFC FAQ page and find nothing useful. Hence the need to offer more support to newbies, and the best way is to have an integrated wiki within the site. Possibly making the site better ranked by Google, and enlargin the "temple columns" to make the wiki displayed properly.

I wanted it to be a surprise, showing you the site once it was complete, but a unexpected problem hit my PC the last days, and it got worse:
Spoiler :
I begun hearing strange sounds from the HD, it was turning off and on, and freezing for a few seconds. After a scandisk, it begun turning off and on more often, until I got scared and started saving stuff (remember, if I had lost all my RFC files...well, you can imagine...)
After a few hours the boot sector was hit too, so I bought a new HD this morning. While cheerfully installing windows applications and formatting another partition, I heard the same sound again, coming from the NEW HD!!! Shortly followed by a blue screen. So, something is really wrong within the PC itself. If you have any idea, please tell. Meanwhile I broght it to repair, but I don't know how long it will take.

So, now I'm stuck on other PCs and can't update the site anymore.
That's why I ask you to start helping moving contents from the old wiki to the new one you can find in the brand version of rhye.civfanatics.net!
Later, I'll find a way to complete the site inner pages.

For backup/general development reasons: How about setting up a SVN/CVS repository? Just to be sure. I'm pretty sure SourceForge will accept the project.

I work with computers. I would say at least three possibilities, since it happened with two drives.
First, the power supply. It could be failing and when the hard drive draws more power (like to move the arms inside to a new sector), it can't draw enough and the drive is 'hiccuping'. Or the power cable to the drive itself could be going bad.
Second, it could be environmental, like if you smoke. Is your PC dusty inside? Did you clean it out before putting in a new drive?
Third, it could be bad firmware for the hard drives - the drive controller "chip" on the motherboard could be going bad and sending the wrong signals, messing up the physical operation of the drive.
Whatever it is, you did the right thing by sending it to repair and backing up your data at the first signs.

Hope you get your computer fixed soon, Rhye!

The new site looks good!

they told me RAM is okay. Waiting for other news.
Thank you ostar.
I see too power, cable and dust as possible reasons. I'd better change both and clean up everything. I don't think it's the firmware, cos it begun behaving that way just a few days ago.

Well, the HD cable was glued; it seemed to work, but I got a blue screen after a while.
Then I took back to the shop and they changed the power supply, although it was already tested and it was OK.

Everything seems in order now, and the most strange fact is that my old HD, if set as primary drive, loads Windows perfectly again, as if nothing happened.
In other words, a waste of money and time.

I would recommend this for sure, it's what we use for the World 2009 mod. An invaluable free tool. No problem getting SF to accept the project.

I worked in the online world for years... I've had no shortage of hard drive failures and other PC related issues that have cost me important files. Now as I create updates for the W2k9 mod, I commit them to the SVN as I go, to avoid the risk of loosing work.

If you'd like a hand with design (I'm not saying you need it!) or markup/code I'd be happy to oblige. I've been doing web stuff as long as I can remember but I haven't had much opportunity to make use of it lately.

hi Úmarth, what I need is a hand to move the content from the old wiki to the new one.
Other than that, I have a problem with Iexplorer not showing the temple correctly, unlike Firefox

Slightly office topic, Rhye. But any chance of upgrading RFC Europe on the new wiki from "proposed" to "Under Development" so st. lucifer and I can transfer stuff from our wiki into yours? Also, as we're nearing beta stage, any chance of our own sub-forum? Please.:)

double post. sorry

It seems Firefox, IE, Opera and Safari all display it slightly differently... but there's a lot of extraneous markup so it's very hard to track down exactly what the problem is. Sorry, I guess that doesn't help at all :/

Yeah, I'll set up a few pages asap, but then it'll be up to you to move the content.
as for the forum, we'll see...

True, and I think the Brazil area isn't updated in either Atlas also. But at least the one linked above has the extra UHV areas showing, because the one linked from your site doesn't have at least half of the civ-specific UHV areas at all. The English UHV area for instance is not visible on the Atlas linked from your site.

Sorry, wrong thread...

On the subject of the Wiki, is there any possibility of letting non-image files be uploaded, for the sake of pre-generated saves?

*surreptitiously uses this post as a temporary workaround*
