Has anybody already done a scenario like these? I'm thinking of doing either one:

Greek City-States:
A scenario that is set in Ancient Greece. You can play one of several city states, but it starts out early enough that they're all on equal footing (much like the Sengoku C3C scenario). In this new history, any city-state (not just Athens/Sparta) can rise to be the dominant force of the area. I realize that others are working on Peloponnesian Wars scenario... what I'm talking about would be earlier than that. Greece would be undeveloped and anything could happen...

Manifest Destiny:
or How the West Was Won
Starting sometime after the War of 1812, this scenario would chart the ante-bellum expansion of America until 1860 or so. Players would be the United States, Mexico, Texas, Several Indian Tribes, Great Britian (Canada), and Spanish colonies. The United States (or any other power) would win through land domination of North America by the US Civil War (1860). Special units could be: Wagon-trains (fast settlers), Immigrant Workers (cheap workers... maybe an early "Ellis Island" type wonder would spawn one every few turns), etc...

So, what do you think? Do either of them sound cool? Which one would be the most interesting? The semester ends this week, and that means plenty of time to MOD! Personally, I'd perfer to do the Greek City-States first... but Manifest Desinty would be cool too. Lemme know what you think!

I like your idea for an "Ellis Island" pioneer-generating Wonder a lot and would love to see how that would work out in play.

Depending upon scope, don't forget Russians in Alaska as well as Dutch and French colonial possessions in the Caribe -- and may I recommend Pirates as a Civ ... ? Just a thought :)

Best,

Personally I think Manifest Destiny sounds like more fun. :)

Someone's doing a Greek Scenario, I know Kryten has made lots of Geek units. It's probably alxander-centered but can be converted to Pelloponessian war in a jiffy.

Manifest destiny is more fun, def. Don't forget Russia and France. They had colonies in Alaska and the Caribbean respectively...I think Fort Ross in California was also Russian until about the same time as Alaska although I may be wrong.

mind you i think the US has the best chance at winning anyway, considering the fertile lands it has to the west and the larger starting base. Or Mexico, same thing. You might have to think of how to balance that with the rest of the contenders.

We are going to have enough 'modern' scenarios, I vote for greece.

But i would vote for a historic version. (or perhaps, a sphinx near Thebes, which destroys every unit around? cooooooooool :D )

Hmm... I'll probably do Manifest Destiny first. I think it'd be more original. The City-States one still interests me, though. I'll do it later.

Here's some ideas I had for Manisfest Destiny:

Yeah, Russian, French and Dutch (was Suriname independent by this time?) will be included. For Native American tribes, I'll do groups representing the Plains, Southwest, and Northwest tribes: Souix, Apache, Nez Perce respectively. Any other ideas?

As to game balance...

-The United States would definitely have an advantage, but they'd have to race against the clock with everybody against them (Mexico, Native Americans, Britain, etc...). Maybe all the Victory Points could start out of US hands? (They'd become expansion goals for the US).

-Mexico would start out with prime lands (mainly California, which after the "Gold Rush" Advance will be of major value), giving them an advantage.

-Colonial possessions of Russia, Britian, France, etc... would have governments which allow them Imperial Military Funding, making up for their lack of land and reflecting the influence their respective empires still had on North America.

-Texas (small, 3 city republic on the map) will be in a lock-alliance with the United States. Texas always wanted to be annexed and enter the Union, but questions over its slave-holding status prevented it from doing so when it wanted to, I think its status is best reflected by a locked-alliance. Texas will win if the US wins.

What do you think should be done to make the Native American civs playable? Should the 3 Native American tribes be lock-allied with ea. other? I was thinking of leaving a cultural victory open for the Native American tribes, if they could amass a large enough cultural influence, they would be able to survive/win. Or should they just be unplayable?

If the Victory Point locations were all in non-United States hands... it'd be possible for the non-US civs to win by defending against US aggression.

Lemme know what you think.

I would rather see a Manifest Destiny scenario however it is about the genocide of thousands and thousands of Native Americans and the removal of my people (the Cherokee if you didn't know) to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) with the Trail of Tears :(. If I play this scenario I want to be the Cherokee and lead to the fall of the USA and burn all the cities down for payback.

Make sure you add the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Miami, and Cheyenne for this. Just so you know.. the Miami were in Ohio and Wisconsin and not Florida.

I've been trying to add in the Statue of Liberty great wonder that spawned "immigrants"- workers that don't require population- every few turns. I didn't make it spawn oridinary workers because I didn't know if it would take a population point from the city everytime a worker was produced.
