Ive completed my map of TSRs World of Greyhawk, which should be familiar to anyone who played AD&D in the 1980s. Its a huge map (160x160 grid), and is pretty darn accurate rivers and all so if you still have the old hexagon-covered wall map you will have a great advantage in your exploration.
It is pangaea-type world, and is actually only 160x120 in size because the eastern 25% is empty ocean. Since I couldnt figure out how to bar east-west wraparound travel, the empty ocean effectively bars such travel. There are still plenty of land spaces to make for a 16-player field. I did not modify the player identities, so you still have the USA, Rome, Germany, etc.
The resource that is most scarce is rubber so if you want to build any infantry or armor you will definitely want to own some property in the tropics (hint, hint).
A few issues: Without an option for swamp terrain in the Civ Editor, I used flood plains (modified to produce less food). Unfortunately, the nine swamp areas thus look just like desert areas. Does anyone know how to modify this terrain icon to add some light green color, perhaps?
I also dont know how to depict volcanoes, five of which belong in the mountains in the southwest corner of the map (the Hellfurnaces).
And less importantly, the Land of Black Ice in the north is just plain tundra.
Incidentally, the barbarian villages also match the locations of the towns on the Greyhawk map, although some are not included, in order not to imbalance the game with too many barbarian villages. The sixteen player starting locations also match town locations on the Greyhawk map, and are pretty evenly spread across the world.
Have fun conquering!
(Reminder: I would like to modify the swamp terrain icon, if anyone can tell me how.)
EDIT: When I try to upload the Greyhawk.bic (59 KB) the system tells me it's an invalid file. I'll post the map as soon as I can figure this out! (The same goes for the thumbnail preview.)
