Does anyone have a copy of the AD&D World of Greyhawk map for Civ3? It's the map with Perrenland, Iuz, the Scarlet Brotherhood, Great Kingdom, etc.

EDIT: See Post #17 for the completed Greyhawk map and thumbnail screenshot.

As I said, WFB, I have the map. I think that I might be able to turn it into a Civ3 map with a bit of work. I would not try modding it to AD&D standard for units and everything. I might try to match up the characteristics of the various states there with existing Civ3 ones.

Outstanding! I too have the boxed set; I was just wondering if I might save myself some effort before I go devising a Civ3 map to match it.

Hopefully I'll be able to post my progress next weekend (02-03 Aug).

Having gotten out my boxed set, and looked at the map, I would plan on converting every hexagon into two tiles, and setting the map to 300 x 200 to give you a bit of a margin on the eastern side to allow the northern barbarians to get to the eastern nations via ships rather than by land. This also allows for filling in some spots too.

I’ve completed my map of TSR’s World of Greyhawk, which should be familiar to anyone who played AD&D in the 1980s. It’s a “huge” map (160x160 grid), and is pretty darn accurate – rivers and all – so if you still have the old hexagon-covered wall map you will have a great advantage in your exploration.

It is pangaea-type world, and is actually only 160x120 in size because the eastern 25% is empty ocean. Since I couldn’t figure out how to bar east-west wraparound travel, the empty ocean effectively bars such travel. There are still plenty of land spaces to make for a 16-player field. I did not modify the player identities, so you still have the USA, Rome, Germany, etc.

The resource that is most scarce is rubber – so if you want to build any infantry or armor you will definitely want to own some property in the tropics (hint, hint).

A few issues: Without an option for swamp terrain in the Civ Editor, I used flood plains (modified to produce less food). Unfortunately, the nine swamp areas thus look just like desert areas. Does anyone know how to modify this terrain icon to add some light green color, perhaps?

I also don’t know how to depict volcanoes, five of which belong in the mountains in the southwest corner of the map (the Hellfurnaces).

And less importantly, the “Land of Black Ice” in the north is just plain tundra.

Incidentally, the barbarian villages also match the locations of the towns on the Greyhawk map, although some are not included, in order not to imbalance the game with too many barbarian villages. The sixteen player starting locations also match town locations on the Greyhawk map, and are pretty evenly spread across the world.

Have fun conquering!

(Reminder: I would like to modify the swamp terrain icon, if anyone can tell me how.)

EDIT: When I try to upload the Greyhawk.bic (59 KB) the system tells me it's an invalid file. I'll post the map as soon as I can figure this out! (The same goes for the thumbnail preview.)

It sounds like you need the "Conquests" expansion - this adds both Marsh and Volcano terrain and allows the taking off of the East/West wrap :)

Great - I'll check this out (I have the Conquests CD) and modify what I can.

But is there any way to change an existing 160x160 map into a 160x120 one?

F12 allows you to crop a map, IIRC
Okay, I've got the east/west travel ban and marsh/volcano issues taken care of. I'm working on attaching the map file to this thread.

Now, how do you post a thumbnail of the mini-map?

And thanks again for your help!

Okay, now I'm having difficulty attaching the file.

Sorry - first timer. I uploaded the file from my computer, typed & submitted my post, but no attachment.

Any advice?

I'd upload the file to the Downloads Database, and link to it over here.

For the picture, you can also upload that in the Downloads Database, after you've uploaded your file :)

Okay, I tried downloading Greyhawk.biq and Greyhawk Minimap.bmp to the Downloads Database, but the former is being called an "invalid file" and the latter is too large.

I can zip the bitmap picture, but I do not know why I cannot download my map to the database.

Further, even after I download it successfully, I do not know the location of the Downloads Database, which I would need to know in order to post a link to the two files.

Thanks for all the help, by the way! It really is a cool map, in fact I'm just finishing my first game using it. My modern armor is just about to surge into the Tilvanot Peninsula (i.e. Scarlet Brotherhood, for those familiar with the map).

Okay, here's the overall Greyhawk minimap, with detail of Perrenland/Lake Quag, Ket, Furyondy, Iuz/Lake Whyestil, and Nyr Dyv.

Okay, I zipped the .biq file, and will now try to attach both files again.

Virote Considon: Thanks for all the help. I hope you like the map!

Finally got back to Civ3 Forums and downloaded the map. I look forward to having some fun with it. Thanks.

I have imported this map into the Warhammer 2.51 BIC and it works great. I also increased the number of playable civs to 29 to be inline with the number of WH civs.
This gives a great fantasy simulation which is much better than using the basic human civs and it brings Greyhawk back to life.
