GreySG - Earl Grey - English Succession Game

1600: Bought two workers from Persia for 70 gold. Sell free artistry to India for 13 gold, 2 gold per turn and their world map.

1605: Nationalism researched and we now focus our attention on steam power.

1610: Give Greece a tribute of 5 gold, they offered an unfair trade and I just wanted to shut them up.

1615: Swap territory maps with Deutschland.

1620: Germany declared war on Russia, we may want to jump in on Germany's side and try to grab some of the ex-French land.

1625: Aztecs declare war on Russia.

1630:

1635: Lower science to 50% for 1 turn and net 132 gold.

1640: Trade nationalism to America for 70 gold, 19 gold per turn and their world map. Trade one of our two extra coal sources to Rome for 35 gold per turn. Raise luxury rate to 10%.

1645: Raise luxury rate to 30% in a failed attempt at getting a Russian city to flip to us. We will need to take them over by force and not culture. We lost our supply of furs and wines. Trade gems to Persia for furs and 32 gold per turn.

1650:

1655:

1660: Persia wants alliance versus the Russians but I decline for now.

1665:

1670: Buy Roman worker for 27 gold. Start Iron works in Richmond. Exetor joins the Russians.

1675:

1680: Lower science to 30% for 1 turn and net 320 gold. Start research on the corporation and I think I set science at 80%. Our palace is expanded.

1685:

1690: Purchase electricty from Persia for four our world map and 470 gold, I thought there was a tech in there but maybe I was wrong. Trade industrialization to Greece for 60 gold, 50 gold per turn and their world map. Trade electrcity to Greece for medicine and 14 gold per turn.

1695: Buy wines from Babylon for phyics, world map and 27 gold per turn. Sell theory of gravity to Inida for 30 gold, 3 gold per turn and their world map.

We've started a rail network and have about 6, maybe more, cities connected. We have a decent sized army, though I might focus some more attention on that, and we should consider fighting the Russians. They have a lot of land that should be easy to take and they are at war with three other civilizations, so they should probably be susceptible to a quick strike and peace deal. I started Universal Sufferage in Kuhstadt but I am using that as a holder for Theory of Evolution or the Hoover Dam. Germany still has a three tech lead on us but after we research the corporation in 4 turns, we should be able to pry some techs from them. We can get communism from other sources but I don't know if it is worth it. I would look into selling some of our tech to other civilizations and try to get as much money as we can. We aren't ahead anyway, so we may as well have the option to upgrade our forces and buy techs.

I will need to temporarily drop myself from the game due to some computer problems but hopefully, this will only be a short term matter.

Well, it looks as if Arizona will not get it's say in this round as I must request to be skipped. I am pretty busy and don't know if I can make time. Instead of keeping you guys waiting, I will go ahead and let you skip me. Keep it going, fast.

We'we been kinda busy, with School stuff... Math, Java, Video production and things like that.

Sorry to not post... been busy Defending my honor at my British Story Thread...

Yes, I've seen that your thread on the British Empire game has evolved into quite a discussion. At least everyone has turned out to be civilized about it.

Hope all of your studies are going well. Play when you can - seems that this game has taken on a relaxed play-time atmosphere.

Could it be that over the next few turns we may get an asskicking and nobody wants it to happen on their watch?

Maybe so, but Silver won't be playing until Multiplayer comes out he says... he says he have to concentrate on his studies.
He ran an uninstall earlier today...

Well even if I should follow his lead, I can't: I'm too much of a civfanatic to do so.'

So I will play within 5-6 hours...

Sorry guys. I am dropping out of all of my succession games. The reason, I am not downloading that devil-patch v1.17f. It elminates my single-most favorite feature of the game which is despot pop. rushing. If I ever decide to download the patch or double-install civ3 and have one with the patch, I will re-join. Until then, this is goodbye. Sorry :(

I read the "Read Me" thread in the General Discussions, and from what others are saying, pop rushing may only be changing rather than eliminated.

I saw where others wrote that instead of removing an unhappy citizen when pop-rushing occurs, it would instead remove a happy citizen. This would give you unhappiness quicker, but would still allow for rushing when needed.

I don't know if this was fact or speculation, but hopefully this will turn out to be the case and you then decide to at least stay on through the end of this goofy game.

Speaking of which - how are things going with you, Grey?

Well if someone wants to play for instead of me... go ahead. I will play as soon as I can though...

I have a lot of things going on right now, as I wrote before... Math, Java (write a game in a month :( ), and Video-production.

Me and silver had 5 correct numbers out of 12, in our Math project (We were supposed to have at least 6, to get a second chance, and then we have to have 9 rights and so on, but we got a second chance still...).

I promised another freind to stay of Civ a little, so we can write the Java game... so I'll try to make time, but it will be tough.

EDIT: About Pop-Rushing; Yea, it will be harder to Pop-Rush, but it will still be possible...

So what do you all think, should we play this game with the Patch? Starting Friday?

1: 1705 AD
Hurried Temple in the City with the Saltpeter. Made two(2) citizens Taxmen, and one(1) an entertainer in Nuremburg. Suffering no losses, making 2 more gold, and no one is unhappy so we should get a WLTQ-day real soon. Made two Taxmen in Kuhstadt, for the same effect as in Nuremburg. And we also made 3 citizens Taxmen in Paris. And we made two citizens entertainers in Hastings. This will make it possible to have WLT-Queen-Days in three more cities. (Paris has unhappy citizens...).

2: 1710 AD
We got 'We love the Queen'-Days in all the cities I expected. This will lower corruption.

3: 1715 AD
India and Germany established an alliance against Russia. India declares war against Russia. Soon we should help them... :)

4: 1720 AD
Cathrine askes for Coal, or as you might say, threaten us for coal. This might be the Moment, this might be the perfect moment for our Golden Age. I say No! They lurker away and do not declare war. "You insolent dog! You will rue the day you twarted mother Russia! Ooo, you just wait...".Germany completes the Universal Suffrage. Traded 'The Corporation', World Map and 150 Gold to get Espionage, Communism and Sanitation.

1725 AD - 1735 AD
Railroading...

8: 1740 AD
Babylon and Germany compiles an Alliance against Russia.
We research Theory of Evolution. And starts the construction, some spying will be conductes to see how much we can wait with the completion of the wonder, because as it is now... we will have it in 4 turns, and probably get Replaceable parts and Refining. But I want Atomic Theory and Electronics. A palace, or the Theory, shall be started in a productive River City.
Traded The Corporation to Zululand, for Spices (We need free, happy faces to research...), 20 Gold and World Map.
We trade RoP, und ze Corporazon to ze Ruzians (Why do I talk like a German all of a zoden?), for zeir Dyes, und World Map.
We do some investigation in Delphi (Greece), They have 28
Turns left on T.of.E. They have 7 Resources. 40% Science, and 3 R.Men as Garrison.

9: 1745 AD
Greece and Germany have signed a Military Alliance against Russia. The people love so much the offer to expand my Palace.

10: 1750 AD
The Furs - Gems deal with Persia is ended. We negotiate a new deal and get 17 G/turn and their Furs for our Gems.

11: 1752 AD
Nothing special...

12: 1754 AD
Nothing Special...

13: 1756 AD
The Forbidden Palace is built in Warwick.

14: 1758 AD
Nothing Special...

15: 1760 AD
Traded Steel for Replaceable Parts and 426 Gold from the Germans, now it's time to finish the Theory of E. Wasting 81 Shields.

16: 1762 AD
Theory of Evolution is completed in Kuhstadt. Strange... I was researching Refining... I thought you didn't get what you were researching? I got Refining, and Combustion? What is this, I should have gotten Atomic Theory and Electronics!?

Anyway, we are in a Tech lead!

We have one tech more then the Germans, Combustion that is. We will get Atomic in 9 Turns, or 8 Turns if we afford to loose 56 G/turn. Liverpool is a very good Production City and it has a River in it's Radius, it has about 50+ Shields/Turn, and with a coalplant it will have a smashing 75 Shields/Turn. It is currently building a Hospital, but it could change to a coal plant and build it in 2 turns. If we are lucky we could win in a space-race, and if we make people love us, maybe a diplomatic win. We WILL get the UN, that's for sure, with Liverpool that is...

The goal for the next player is to build the Hoover Dam, Liverpool is the city for that purpose, you have to decide if it should finish it's Hospital before building a Coal Plant (Which can be sold later...), and then start to store shields.

I also built the F.Palace as I wrote above, which is located south, pretty close to the Russians, but placed so that it will help many Corrupted cities.

And the Iron Works will be completed in 6-8 turns in one of the southern border cities.

EDIT: We will soon (in about 4 turns) get the Wall Street too, We have many good Production Cities in fact...

It should be Kev or Gonzo next right?

And Gonzo; it's only harder to Pop-Rush, it's not eliminated, and you won't need it in this game.

The Patch is wonderful...

(How do we get our G.Age??? I can't find any Russian Ships... and we have an RoP for 10 Turns more by the way... We have some Cavalrys in their area... and the Germans has taken quite a lot of cities from them.)

I guess I'm still in this one. Kev will have to go before me because I have to go download the patch and then I have a bowling tournament to bowl in and then I have to organize my computer desk.

OK, I'll download. I'll also have to do the patch thing as well.

Great job, Grey. Actually with a tech LEAD! I can only imagine it's because Germany is either having weariness despite the Universal Suffrage or that they're in a government like Monarchy or Communism.

I'll try to see if I can trigger some sort of Golden Age for us. I wonder if there's a wonder that we could build to do so.

I'll keep my ear to the ground with the Russian war. Man, they are in trouble. I think it may be best to pick and choose our place as weariness may hit quickly, and if we agree to go to war we'll risk making everyone mad if we make peace too quickly. It may be worth it, however, if it means picking up a city with a resource or luxury. Let's see what we can do!

Guys, I've been trying to install the patch, and I keep getting a message that the exe file has been corrupted. I downloaded it twice - from the connection at civfanatics.com and .net. I have no interest in waiting around ANOTHER 20 minutes to do it again. I'll see if there is something else that I can do. In the mean time, either skip me or hang in there until I can get this DAMN thing to work for me.

Why is this stuff never easy for me?

Somebody should play soon... I don't want this game to end like this...

Gonzo, Thiazi... somebody!
