I don't see how to change to make more food etc.

What screen do you use and which button to press?

And why does the interface have to change with each new evolution of Civilization?

What happened to waypoints in civ 3?, Why can't we stack military units in this game? No combined arms with this version?

You mean make the city work towards food vs. production, etc? That's in the City Screen, upper right. The list starts collapsed so you have to click the "+" to expand it. That will also let you manually assign your people.

Civilization rarely seems to be a sequel as much as a re imagining of the game. The core of the game seems to come through, but the implementation can be radically different.

I will check out your tip as soon as I Finnish this reply.

I just looked at my Civilization library. I have each evolution from Civ II on through 5. You can tell I love these games. (Civ 3 might have been the best, I think it had the most command options.)

It seems like the major improvements in 4 and 5 are graphical enhancements. Those are nice but I like the game for strategy more than the way it looks.

I don't love having to learn how everything works for each new version, or that useful things don't carry on from version to version. I'd sure like the developers to keep those things form one version to the next
