The idea of this game is to conquer the world with the roman legions, therefore we will limit us to the following

restrictions:
  • allowed victory type for us is conquest only
  • allowed military land units: warriors and legionaries (see below)
  • allowed sea units: galleys, caravels, galleons, transports
  • allowed air units: none
  • connect iron when found
  • build no more warriors when iron is connected
  • upgrade warriors to legionaries when possible

disallowed exploits:
  • ressource denial (with a non military unit or by rop abuse)
  • rop rape and abuse
  • free palace jumping
  • rank curruption exploit
  • ship chaining
  • pop rushing by joining workers to a city
  • getting wealth and production from a city in the same turn

game parameters:
  • version: ptw 1.27f
  • civ: romans
  • difficulty: monarch
  • world size: large
  • land mass: continents
  • water coverage: 70%
  • climate: wet
  • temperature: temperate
  • age: 4 billion
  • barbarians: restless
  • rivals 11 random
  • rules: all victory conditions on
  • cultural link: off
  • respawn AI: off

current roster:
  • Vizurok
  • Bede

Any comments on the setup are very much welcome!

The Roman Resurgence!

I'll enlist.

PTW please.

This is not a sign up but how do u plan on conquering everyone with only legions after thisfirst maybe 50-70 turns? Other civs will have knights and u still need to use legions? And what about the tank age?

Will the restrictions be made via mod by disabling all but the mentioned units for the romans?

@bede and vizurok
Thanks for signup, I`ll add you to the roster.

@general_kill
If we let the AI get to the tank age we will be in deep trouble, let's see how far we can get - I guess riflemen will still be possible - with heavy losses of course. It will not be easy of course.

@Ail
No, I won't mod the game, we will simply restrict ourselves to these rules - as is normal in SGs imho.

War early and often, sticks and stones will break their bones,

I'll be the first to say this will be extremely tough with a large world and 11 opponents. Even with Monarch I am doubting you can get to the AI in time. I'm subscribing to this now because it will be fun to watch. I wish you guys the best and hope you get a nice settler factory or two or like SirPleb's 4. You're going to need hundreds of those mighty legions to conquer before the AI gets Rifles.
Good luck again.

@barbslinger
I was thinking some time about map size and layout, but I wanted to make sure, we won't have a chanche to overrun them too soon. I was also thinking about taking the persians or celts for this, but the setup just felt like the romans.

Time will tell if we can make it - a migthy warmonger like you would have helped surely ;)

conehead234 and barbslinger added. Thanks for signing in. Roster is full now.

Do we all agree on playing ptw? Does anyone have any preferences about the order in which we play (e.g. who wants to start?)? I would like to be 3rd or later as I will walk around some small steps to check if our start is ok.

I will create and post start file tomorrow then - it's already past midnight around here.

Hoping for some food and a river. Settler factory will be top priority out of the gate. Warriors and legions are our only offensive weapons and from reading the rules we can't even build spears or other defense. I would suggest that we use the early times for building a load of warriors. Say 30-40. Then mass upgrade and Kaboom. I would road our iron hill/mountain but leave the flatland connector undone to be able to hook up in one turn when needed. EDIT: Oops, we have to connect when found. In that case we may want to delay discovering IW instead of racing towards it. Risky though. We can take our time roading to it though right? ;)
The only techs we need for war are: BW, Masonry, Pottery, Alpha > IW, Math, Writing > Currency, Construct, Phil, CoL, MM. Depending on gov't we want we will need the lower branch at least to Poly to get to MA. Gov't is a toss up now depending on what kind of towns and land we have. I'm hoping for the AI to declare and we take the first one down to a city and hold the war happiness entire game.
In MA we only need upper tier for boats.
For wonders I definately want SunTzu for our expanded conquesting. Perhaps pyramids for expanding our empire and GLight for getting to the other AI.

PTW I say! So whatz about the rooster now? Normal map, please, impossible to get to the other continent in time... But if it is Large, well... it will be challenge!!!

Glory to Rome!

@ Bede, Barbslinger: That scratchy sound you hear in the background is the sound of me, writing you guys off as nuts. Two SG's as Rome?!?!? You guys have clearly flipped! :p

@ Conehead: The biggest challenge this crew is gonna face is talking you into saving some enemy for them. I'm still waiting on my 'next set of turns' from the SGOTM... :p

Our start is generated; it looks ok I guess. I will update the first post shortly with the screenshot and the save.

We still have to agree about the order of the roster and especially find a volunteer to start the game.

Some discussions about early preferences before we start? I think while the possibility to upgrade many warriors is nice, we should not wait too long to get iron working and secure an iron source. We surely don't want to war for iron with warriors only..!?

Research could be Pottery, Writing, Map Making, Bronze- and Iron Working.
@barbslinger: you want Masonry for walls? Not sure they are that important so soon...or is it for a palace pre-build?

Some procedural things:

We play 20 turns (to 3000BC) on start then 10 per player, ok?
24 hours to post "got it" 48 to play, ok?

Feedback welcome!
