When a great spy is born, does anyone use the Infiltrate City function?

With the options of building multiple Scotland Yards, starting golden ages, and even becoming a super specialist, i dont see how priority can be given to infiltrating another's city

If a significant espionage advantage is a result of infiltrating an opponent's city, is it ever worth sacraficing the great spy's other options???

    - If you need a critical tech. In my last game I used a infiltrate mission to steal Philospophy. so I won the Liberalism race.

    - If you plan to attack and you need EPs right now

    - In the late game the advantage is obvious

It's quite comparable to G Artist's culture bombs. Gives you a short term benefit that you can exploit right away (steal techs, revolts,...) or if it's late game and long term doesn't exist anymore.

It's nice when you're preparing for war or you've beelined to a tech. Infiltrate your target so you can see their stuff and revolt/poison/sabotage with impunity. Or infiltrate your neighbor and swipe all the techs you bypassed for your beeline. Beats the heck out of trading the fruits of your labour for them. :D

    What they said ^^^

I find the to Infiltrate City mission is only helpful from an early GSpy when playing on Emperor (or higher, I presume), since it's more likely that particular AI will actually have techs worth stealing. At Monarch and below, it's more likely I'll be on par with or conquering said civ, so all those EPs will just go to waste.

In the late game, I know exactly who those EPs need to go towards, so it's a no brainer when I get a post Renaissance GSpy.

    all very helpful, thanks!! :)

...now i would like to ask this: would anyone consider making a gspy a super specialist if at war or planning on going to war??

if you pop a gspy early, from the great wall for example, settling it for 12 ep/turn is a huge return over the course of the entire game, it can even give you a huge leg up on the competition early.

I agree what everyone else says.

First GSpy get's settled in the capital, second gets scotland yard in the capital. At that point the capital is a super espionage city, running spy specialists, and building jails/agencies/bureaus ASAP.

Later Gspies I settle in the capital until late game where you probably want an espionage mission.

Yes. Many are the games I've had world visibility thanks to The Great Wall and a couple of early Great Spies.

I rarely use the infiltrate mission though unless my worst enemy has too much EP on me, and I need to get a lot on him quickly. Especially useful in a close Space Race (nowt more fun than destroying rocket ship parts left right and center and having your own destroyed)

Infiltrate late game, but in that situation I'd probably burn him for a GA. 3 beakers and 12 espionage points is nothing to laugh it. With the early great wall and some luck I ended up with 4 settled spies + scotland yard. My EP generation in my capital was ridiculous even though the slider was at 0%. I stole techs that whole game, but i was really happy when I stole industrialism the very turn catherine finished it.

After watching the Mao RPC, I've tried the Great Wall, settled GSpy tactic to great use. I love being able to keep tabs on my rival's research and later having city visibility is great, especially when I'm plotting out a backstab. :D

Plus I love having a huge wall around my capital. :D
