Guess the New Civs

Also, when it comes to diversity flavor, it's not very interesting to count a Civ that we know exclusively because of their contacts with Europeans as an Asian civilization. If there are no Asian civs added, I don't think people will accept the argument that they added the Huns.

Would be a better more real game for some of us.

i still say a dutch and zulu scenario sounds fun, but i'm expecting ethiopia before zulu, since there's going to be religion.
though now that i think about it, there are 3 european civs being added, so we can always get both. i'd also prefer kongo over the zulu, but i'm not expecting it, since songhai is an african civ that had never been in the game before.
i'm also expecting another asian civ. indonesia would be great, but i don't know if we'll get them.
and i'm hoping for another native american group. maybe pueblo or inuit. something that can improve tiles that normally can't be improved.

Maybe a Meditterannean trading empire
and i'm kind of expecting carthage to specialize in this.

indonesia would be great, but i don't know if we'll get them.

Why do people keep saying this? Do they mean a civ from Indonesia? Indonesia is a modern post-colonial nation. A civ from what is now Indonesia, i.e. Majapahit or Srivijaya would be far more appropriate.

I think they will take Indonesia above any of those empires that existed in Indonesia.
They chose India, not Mughal or Maurya and the country was not named India until British colonization.

Yeah, I think this would be most suitable way to present them in the game.

Timeline of Indonesian History

Ten Early kingdoms:
Kutai (4th century)
Tarumanagara (358–669)
Kalingga (6th–7th century)
Srivijaya (7th–13th centuries)
Sailendra (8th–9th centuries)
Sunda Kingdom (669–1579)
Medang Kingdom (752–1045)
Kediri (1045–1221)
Singhasari (1222–1292)
Majapahit (1293–1500)

As there were ten early Kingdoms in Indonesia, with Majapahit as the most well known, I think it would be best for the Civ to represent them all. Like Pouakai said it would essentially be the Majapahit - if Hayam Wuruk would be chosen as the leader and the capital would be Trowulan. :)

Couldn't the same thing be said about India? For that matter, couldn't the same thing be said about Greece? There's a difference between an Empire/State and a Civilization.

I swear to god,if they put in a civ that can make city's in mountains "Petra" style this is an instabuy.

I don't think they can make a civ that can build cities in mountains becaue that automatically makes them indestructible, because no other civs can enter Mountain Tiles.

and Helicopter Gunship isn't permitted to capture cities....

What I've heard proposed is essentially the Majapahit under the name Indonesia, like how we have the Vikings as Denmark

this. china isn't in as the zhou dynasty, even though that's when wu zetian ruled. of course, turkey is still in as the ottomans, so i guess anything can happen, but i'd still prefer it being called indonesia.

There's also just an issue of common understanding. People know what Indonesia is and they won't have to think whether the j, p, or h comes first in Majapahit. ;)

This. You can't forget that first and foremost, the game has to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. If the box says "Play as the Mejapahit civilization!" most people are going to look at it and say "Huh?" If it says play as Indonesia, your average gamer can wrap their heads around that a little bit better. Yes, it's dumbing down the game a bit, but it doesn't dminish gameplay or "fun factor" at all.

Since this is a expansion,I don't think people wouldn't buy it just because there's a civilization little known . Actually, this might be even a incentive for buying this expansion, because there are people who wants civs that have never been officially represented in Civ series before .

Yeah, "civilization" is a broader term and doesn't always coincide with the political entity. That's how we can have a Greek Civilization that includes more than the Polis of Attica (Athens) or even the Delian League that she ruled. Same reason we speak of the Phoenician civilization, not the Tyrian civilization, etc.
