How do I change the transition time for the human player?

In my last games the best value was '3 turns', but I had to save and save and save to get it.
I really, absolutely dislike it when I try to escape despotism and am told then 'We will have the situation under control in 8( !!! :(  ) turns'.

This was a problem in PTW as well, but with one of the patches it became tolerable.

Now, being caught between Sumeria and China, having to fight the classical two-fronts war and being glad, that finally your scientists made it to monarchy, you shall be forced to fight that bloddy war just with your reserves? No way....

Many here might consider suffering through anarchy during a government switch part of the game instead of something to be tried again and again by reloading.

As far as I know there is only one way to reduce the human's government transition time - play a religious civ :).

BTW, the amount of anarchy time is composed of two elements: (1) a random element of between 1 - 5 turns; and (2) an element of 0 - 3 turns, depending on the size of your empire. That makes the range of anarchies last anywhere between 1 and 8 turns for a non-religious civ.

You can mod your civ and make them religious in the editor but you might consider taking away something from them in return or you could allow all the civs to have the religious trait so no one will suffer anarchy effects.

Personally, I think that it should take longer to switch to democratic forms of government from despotic forms of government. It should be a fast transition from a despotic or oligarchic form to another similar form (monarchy to commmunism, feudalism to fascism), and likewise for democratic forms of government switching to another democratic type.

But yeah, its weird that they decided Religious makes you have shorter anarchy though. Its best to play a religious civ if you really hate anarchy that much, like me :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but where do you get a message telling you how long Anarchy is? I always thought it was random, and did not know you could find out how long it was going to be. Is this from one of your advisors?

I just accept that a government will cost me 7 turns (as that's usually what I get anyway), and that is part of my decision process, is this government worth 7 turns. Usually yes, to get out of despotism, otherwise it depends on the situation.

When you view the F1 advisor, one of the messages that cycles will tell you how long is left on the Anarchy. Catt is correct on the numbers; they were mentioned a long time back :

oh, you wanted to know if there is a random factor. well, there is. it's between 1 and 5 turns. plus 0 - 3 extra turns depending on number of cities

I'm correct on the numbers only because kring originally directed me to them some months ago after I wondered about them for some time. Thx kring for your regular insights into the game :goodjob:

thx for your answers, although they cannot make me really happy....

that's what's wrong wit the world LOL :rotfl:

I've noticed that in Conquests, it seems that religious civs get a turn and change of anarchy. Say I'm Spain and I start a revolution in the middle of my turn after getting a new gov't tech from a buddy. I'm in anarchy the rest of that turn and also for the subsequent turn.
