This thread will serve as a log of all the communication that takes place between Fanatikou and GWT. All messages sent and recieved, as well as logs of chats, will be posted in this thread.

Everyone is also welcomed to post their own comments on our diplomatic ties with GWT.

First message from GWT:
Hello Octavian X, hello to the people of Fantikou!

Due to the fact that some of other team members are currently unable to participate in the game I was named the new minister of foreign affairs and so I´m your new ambassador. We would like to ask if you´re interested in some kind of agreement concerning tech research. You can answer via PM or mail me at
warrenlynch@gmx.de .

Sent in response:
Minister LouisWu:

It appears that our government has changed yet again: it has a strange tendancy to do that. I am now the Fanatikese Ambassador to your nation.

That said, I first wish to apoligize, as part of the long silence between our great nations can be blamed on our part. We grew lazy with our own diplomatic efforts.

Fortunately, that is behind us. There are other issues at hand.

Undoubtedly, you have heard of Fanatikou's past interaction with the Gamecatcher Alliance. Long story short, long ago, Gamecatcher betrayed our trust and declared war on our nation. Now, as they are beaten back by the joint, righteous, forces of Apolyton and Fanatikou, they wish to 'pay us back' by refusing to accept peace, thus forcing Apolyton and Fanatikou to suffer eternal war weariness as a result of a war they lost and refuse to end.

This dubious plan, to say the least, has drawn the ire of many a Fanatikese citizen. We were concerned by Webringen's actions, allowing them survive in a corner of your continent. We simply wish to know why you decided to help Gamecatcher, and if thereis anything we can do to get you to withdraw your support from these treacherous peoples.

That in mind, we would like to schedule some sort of chat with representatives of your nation so that we may discuss this, as well as any other current issues that exist, such as the possibility of arranging some sort of trades.

We await your reply. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Ambassador Octavian X

Looks quite good so far. Let's hope the new year shall bring us some luck. :)

Unless they had a deal or something... They could be planning an assault against CGN.

Wizard, you can count on it.

GCA is valuable to GWT because the UUs of both nations are based on the Knight. If GWT wishes to get the upper hand over GCN, it would help to have an ally that can enhance your military might.

GCA's War Elephant also comes in handy because it requires no Strategic Resources to build. I checked the FA screen and saw that we cannot offer Chivalry to either team, which means they both have the tech. :(

I wish CGN the best, but our options for assistance are really limited at this point.

Reply from GWT:

Hello Ambassador Octavian X!

Unfortunately we have due to technical problems with our forum no detailed
reply at the moment. You will get one definitely until Sunday. This only in
case to conform that we received your message and there will be a full-length
answer in the next 2 or 3 days.

Thank you for your appreciation (hopefully) and regards from the GWT

LouisWu
Minister of foreign affairs

Rather inconclusive... We'll have to wait some more, I guess.

GWT's response

Hello Octavian X, hello people of Fanatikou!

We'd like to apologize for the delay of this detailed answer. Unfortunately
it's quite difficult to find satisfactory answers to your questions due to
concerns inside our team about your relations with Apo and Neta.

Since we encountered GCA, we have found out that they're a group of
honourable people. When we heard about their problems with their war at two
fronts
against your team and Apo so we discussed about the possibility to save them
and that´s what happened.

Due to the unclear status of your people towards Apo and Neta we're not sure
if any trade is possible.

The war weariness you're suffering at the moment due to the rejected peace
offer makes us quite sad. We'll send a diplomatic note to GCA and ask them if
a peace treaty is possible.

Regards
LouisWu
Minister of Foreign Affairs

OK, that isn't too bad. According to him, they helped GCA out of the kindness of their hearts.

Our response should include our view on the GCA war, as well as a thanks for their willingness to talk to GCA about signing a peace agreement with us.

Our response should also include our stance with Apolyton and CGN. Most likely, we should just say we are at peace with both, period.

I encourage the Apolytonian ambassador to forward this message to Apolyton, as it does contain some information that they may find useful.

I will do so right away Octavian. :)

Perhaps you can also request of them what issues they have with Apolyton that would lump them in with GWT's sworn enemy, CGN.

Great work!

I like the ideas Oct said. They sound good. :)

We'll need to use some really clever diplomacy if we're gonna try to get GWT to destroy GCA... Which is very doubtable...

GWT has said they found them to be honourable - we need to demonstrate to them the true nature of GCA - tell them the tales of how we have been treated by them. Ask Poly to do the same.

I'm not really up for writing a history of our interactions with GCA, as I feel I played too big a role, one large enough to make me feel any account I write appear biased. Would someone else like to volunteer?

That's great, Oct. Hopefully we can start changing minds. Anyway, I think it would be a good idea if I join you in a chat with GWT. In that chat we could both dispel any lies they received from GCA. I believe GCA told them the complete opposite of the truth.

Your message should probally dispel some if not most of it. Some of GWT might not believe us, so we should follow up on it with a chat.

Here's the proposed message, likely in dire need of a better proofreading...

Hail Minister LouisWu, and greetings to the people of the Webring!

We thank you for your message.

In response to your previous message, the official position of Fanatikese toward Netalonia and Apolyton is one of peace. We have nothing more than peace treaties with these nations, as we already do with the Webring While we do trade technologies with these nations on occasion, these agreements are for the mutual benefit for both nations. If is not our intention to get caught up in another devastating war, especially after the Great Border Wars with the Gamecatchers, a conflict which set our nation back technologically and economically hundreds of years.

We feel that you have been deceived by the Gamecatchers, and as such we wish to present our story of how our war with Gamecatcher unfolded. To present our case, I had inserted here a passage from the Annals of Fanatikou, a great project detailing the history of our empire.

This great war of nations started thousands of years ago, perhaps around turn 80 if my memory is correct. This conflict started as a conflict over borders. It originated as a simple conference to determine where the mutual border between our nations should be set. The area in discussion is a fertile group of grassland tiles east of the Yun Feng Mountains, called such by our nation after the name of a town built just on the western edge to supply us with iron. The Gamecatcher Alliance had built it’s own city at the edge of this disputed area, Balance of Power (called now ‘Power of Victory’ by Apolyton), acting as a choke point city that separated our two nations.

The Gamecatchers surprised us with a demand that they be given control of all the land from Balance of Power to the Yun Feng Mountains, as well as control of our iron town. They did offer to replace the town, or even let us keep it, on the strict stipulation that we not connect an iron resource to our trade network. All of Fanatikou was surprised and upset over this outrageous demand. We discussed this demand in our forums, drawing up our own proposal that would split this much disputed area of grassland evenly between Fanatikou and the Gamecatchers. We were then further angered when we learned, but a few turns later, that the Gamecatchers had cancelled our in-game peace treaty as ‘incentive’ for us to hurry up and decide. This meant that, according to the save game, we were in a state of war. When desperate last-minute diplomatic discussions failed, Gamecatcher preceded attack our town of Yun Feng, and to destroy it. They even went so far as to use a game exploit, to attempt to hide this treachery by offering us a peace treaty through the diplomacy screen before we could check to see if the city still stood. It was war.

Fanatikou was far from prepared to fight any sort of war, as we had previously been in an expansionist state of mind. We fought a defensive war. After the massacre of Yun Feng, Gamecatcher sent no less than three offensives into our lands. Each time, we barely managed to rout the invaders. Right after the war had begun, we had informed our neighbors, the Elucidans (otherwise known as the Creative Design Group - CDG) of our plight. They rushed to our aid, soon after sending their Immortal divisions to attack GCA’s northern flank. In the only true battle of the war, they managed to take a Gamecatcher city. Their troops proceded to march toward Catchopolis, the Gamecatcher’s capital, when they were all defeated. Gamecatcher proceded to ravage CDG. Realizing the odds were against them, they forfeited two of their last cities to Apolyton, and sent the last of their technological advances to us. CDG, as you well know, was the first team eliminated from the ISDG.

This is where Apolyton comes into play. We had contacted them as well when the war started, asking for their aid. They intended to remain neutral in the matter. However, CDG’s destruction left them fearing the growing power of the Gamecatchers. They felt that the aggression of Gamecatcher would be turned on them if Fanatikou was eliminated. Because of this, as well as a pledge of revenge Apolyton made to a dying Elucida, Apolyton joined with us in our struggle against Gamecatcher.

As Apolyton’s huge army marched on Gamecatcher territory, they abandon one city after another. Fanatikou, which had previously signed a cease-fire agreement, as well as a temporary peace treaty, with Gamecatcher, renewed it’s war against Gamecatcher in an effort to regain the territory we had lost. Gamecatcher took the same cowardly strategy with us, abadoning cities one after another as we marched on their territory. Thus, it can be said that hardly a single battle was fought in the latter days of the war. The last of the Gamecatcher Alliance fled to the far away lands of the Webringen, leaving remnants of their once-great forces in their homeland to fight a resistance.

We hope this history will help you understand our position. We appreciate your efforts to get the Gamecatchers to sign a peace treaty with us, and look forward to future communication.

Octavian X
Fanatikese Ambassador to GWT

Looks good. Though I found at least one thing:

"... and as such we wish to present our story of how THE OUR war with Gamecatcher unfolded."
