Haile Selassie of Ethiopia (5 June 2006)

Hey Plotty:

Reading through your low down on the the Ethiopians, I now begin to understand the historian/theologian question we discussed briefly.

Oh... And by the way, it's a very good LH. Well done.

Awesome! I love saying the words "Haile Selassie" over and over again. My only quibble with the graphics is that I think it looks a tad odd in the medieval head with that scepter thing in front of his face. But whatever!

Thanks!

The sceptre thing is an Ethiopian processional cross (it was originally smaller, but my girlfriend said it looked like a fairy wand). I wanted to give him a proper Orthodox look in the third age, hence the massive beard and the Addis cathedral backdrop. In case anyone's interested, I also based it on the following description of the emperor Iyasu from 1709:

Charles Poncet said:
I entered into a hall, where the Emperor was seated upon his throne. It was a sort of couch, covered with a red damask flowered with gold. There were round about great cushions wrought with gold. This throne, of which the feet were of massy silver, was placed at the bottom of a hall, in an alcove covered with a dome all shining with gold and azure. The Emperor was clothed with a vest of silk, embroidered with gold and with very long sleeves. The scarf with which he was girt was embroidered after the same manner. He was bare headed and his hair braided very neatly. A great emerald glittered on his forehead and added majesty to him.

Well it certainly doesn't look like a fairy wand now!

Great leaderhead, Plotinus. It looks just like him. :)

For the "history" text -- note that the UN did not exist until 1945 -- Ethiopia took its case to the League of Nations, an organization (amazingly) even more ineffective than the UN....

Thanks, SoG. Next I have a pile of units, partly for the next version of my African scenario and partly for Rambuchan's forthcoming meisterwerk. I was vaguely thinking of a new scenario idea after that, but I don't think it'll happen as I'm too busy with other stuff.

I don't really have expertise in any areas. The units I'm doing for Rambuchan are some medieval religious-type ones, and I want to do a couple more African ones for myself - maybe I'll even tackle that Tuareg Warrior I've been trying to have made for ages now!

This is my first leaderhead (and, given the time it took, probably my last).

I know there are several Ethiopian LHs knocking around, but I wanted a male one that was as authentic as possible. Thus I give you His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Elect of God.

Thanks to R8XFT, whose LH tutorial was very useful, and particular thanks to Hikaro Takayama, who turned my images into Civ III-friendly flcs.

Download it here. There are some minor flaws with a couple of the animations, mostly to do with palettes and with some of the props flickering a little, but I haven't corrected these yet because (a) they don't bother me, and (b) I'm sick of this thing. I may correct them later when I've had a rest.

Historical note: Haile Selassie was not only an exception to the general rule "Never trust a head of state who wears military uniform" but, as far as I know, the only twentieth-century head of state to lead troops in battle while head of state. Unless any of our resident historians can correct me?
Good work. It seems he by true

First of all, you bumped. Secondly, this is in the wrong forum. Thirdly, you need to be more specific than that.
