I think we need to plan for how to handle random events, the kind which pop up and ask for a response. Is there always a best answer? So far the ones I have noticed consume gold for the best result, and have a zero gold bad result. This might just be a matter of saying we always want to pay the gold, but perhaps not, hence the discussion.

This discussion also serves as a reminder that we want to keep a gold balance so that we can give the good answer to events when we want to, instead of being forced into the bad one.

I suggest someone with more time finds a spreadsheet of the events and we have a look at all those with several options, then post guidelines here.

I would think the most helpful options would be chosen foremost in a random event, erego we had the requirements for that option. We should always have a minor gold surplus just in case. Some random events can totally stifle a city if we use the no gold option.

Thats ok for some things but others such as, the slave revolt and which GP you want generally have numerous good or bad options.

The best thing to do would be to take the least damaging choice in the purely negative events, such as a slave revolt.

But who decides what that is? for instance in some occasions i let the revolt carry on and in others i attempt to buy them off.

I personally think it should be up to the dp, it's an event that comes up and the person has to deal with it. If he/she has not been wise enough to set aside a few quid then they will know they have missed a chance, but i certainly don't think it should stop the turn session in anyway, or be subject to a code of conduct (with the exception of one or two, the one about a great mediator coming along offering peace comes to mind). They can, if it's an online turnchat consult other people who are there.

I think the choice has to be made by a quick vote in the #turnchat channel, in order not to give full accountability/responsability/blame/whatever to the turnplayer. This is, at least, how I will deal with Random Events then in my turnsession. I will have the veto right on the vote, but I'll only use it when it seems that the result of the vote comes from the opposition, with sole intent of harming the Prime Faction.

I am in favor of NZL's proposal also.

I'd be OK with giving the DP general guidance and leaving it up to the DP's discretion, possibly with a turnchat vote as in NZL's proposal.

however...

Don't want us to forget the gold requirements must be planned for.

I think this means some situations are obvious and others are not. Can we do any advance planning on the non-obvious and common ones?

I think the random events are a great way for the prime faction to bring their RP into practise. We shouldn't just go for the best option, this game is not about winning after all.
