this may have been mentioned before, but I thought I would just point out that in PTW if you upgrade a damaged obsolete unit it will be at full hp when upgraded. Quite useful if you capture a city with barracks and you have damaged old units.
 
Yeah I've noticed that before, but I have another observation to make. (kinda annoys me). Why do Elite units turn into Veteran when you upgrade them but Regular units stay Regular? Shouldn't they be upgraded to Veteran also? Seems only fair from a symmetrical point of view ;)
 
I think it's to reflect the fact that Elite troops are elite because they have come to know their weaponry, and when they receive new weaponry, they still have good morale and general training (and so are better than regulars), but are not acquainted with the best tactics for their new weaponry. The levels of expertise links to vets and regs only reflect general training (regs) plus that and morale (vets). And conscripts are lucky they're holding the gun by the right end, so they can't get any worse.
