Hannibal (Archipelago Immortal series)

Lots of seafood but no happiness resources and no strategic resources so far. It seems Monarchy is going to be needed to boost city sizes but that is good for trade routes once they're above size 10.

A problem on these maps is growing your cities larger seems to also help your opponents due to the routes. This has gotten worse in BtS.

Isn't Hannibal + immortal + coastal start on archipelago = autowin? :p
1 fish or 8 fish, doesn't matter, just build the GLH.

Turns 100-110
Spoiler :

We met Justinian and traded around some bits…

Turns 110-120
Spoiler :

Whoops, went to 122 by accident. Here is the tech list at this time. Zara went about it in an odd way.

Turns 120-130

Spoiler :

Another patch of ice I’ll take for the iron. And seems I fell asleep at the wheel all these turns and left a far off city ignore using its workboat to improve the sea-source all this time! Grrr I must be getting tired.

Turns 130-140
Spoiler :

Used 2 scientists to bulb Education. I should be quite in the lead about now. Seems we just hit a million souls now.

Turns 140-150
Spoiler :

So sick, I should have had liberalism this turn but I’m off by 1 hair :p I’ll just have to get nationalism next turn….

Turns 150-160
Spoiler :

Finally we met up with .. Gilga. But he is so backwards it’s useless.

Turns 160-170
Spoiler :

Here is where I will plan to hit first. Taking out Zara’s capital. Unfortunately I wont get globe theater up in time, but I may be able to turn his monster food capital into a good draft city. The problem is I basically gave gunpowder away to Justinian for nothing (DRAMA) just to get my own globe up faster, but it seems the only place it will get built in time will be my own capital.

I violated 2 major rules. Never, give a big tech away for a cheap one… and never give away military techs when you plan to pounce on that same AI at a later date.

I’m just not thinking very bright at all right now.

Turns 170-180
Spoiler :

Trying to do some military build-up. Wow does it look like my army is a joke or what? Hmmm.. Waiting for Steel to come in then I’ll try a Grens & Cannon landing. Let’s hope this works.

Turns 180-190

Spoiler :

Zara switched to State Property. And looks like… some people went weehorn.

Turns 190-200
Spoiler :

Hmm, Washington is getting quite powerful. I guess the Wonders could have something to do with that. But Zara’a capital sure looks tasty too. Getting….. Ready!

Never thought I'd see the day

Well, I'm definitely experimenting on these maps. Never did I plan so much active warmongering in my life.. It's sort of fun (if your not used to it).

Turns 200-210
Spoiler :

Ok I just don’t get it. Here I put a ship on every tile next to his capital, and I have the blockade function turn on for all of them. Yet there is NOTHING in the event list after scrolling by that tells me any gold was blocked. Nor did get anything tell me on the announcement list.

I just don’t get it!????? What am I doing wrong here.

Turns 210-220
Spoiler :

We vassaled Zara, actually he was willing to talk the very next turn we DoW’ed him. The poor guy had elephants but couldn’t upgrade them to cavalry, haha.

And now… we have just DoW’ed on Justinian. The guy I went over-board giving military techs to earlier. Hmm! Will I ever learn? He’s got a higher military rating than us too right now but hopefully human intelligence will over-come AI stupidity here.

*********
Took a break here because I passed out.
*********

Much better thinking afterward...

Turns 220-230
Spoiler :

Well, we took out the all the cities on Justin’s continent there, all the while Bismark got bribed and started to attack us as well. I raped him too, though too bad I didn’t have any more ships to finish the job on his naval stack. Eventually we all made peace during the last turn here, but at least I have an extra continent now :p

Now… who to DoW next? Gilga is an easy target, but he has nothing really to offer. Not unless I bother going with Sushi, and right now State-Property is doing fine for me. Washington is getting stronger and I fear will be a big pain if I try to invade now…

Turns 230-240
Spoiler :

Lucky Gilga had a defense pact with Bismark. Now if only I can out-wait Bismark till we make peace again, then MAYBE I can vassal Gilga. I don’t know, but my power rating is so high it may just work. If not I’ll just have to take his capital.

This Bismark is becoming a real nuisssance.

Turns 240-250
Spoiler :

My kill-ratio was so good, I was able to vassal Gilga even though he was still sharing a war with Bismark. I then later made peace with Bismark and we’ll see what to do next.

Unfortunately I really regret going after this silly Sushi thing. It’s just slowing me down far too much, costing me a fortune now trying to get another merchant, and look, the one time I don’t want an engineer, I get one. Despite very low odds. So sick..

It was a very bad mistake, and this is probably the last time I bother going after the corp.

Lesson learned!

Turns 250-260
Spoiler :

Finally popped the GM, but it will be a long time before I can even expect any return on the corp. Hell, and now I have to obsolete my lighthouse just to use it. What a terrible combo…

Anyhow, at least I am able to use the AP to peace-fully steal cities from Justinian.

Turns 260-270
Nothing worth noticing.
Just trying to spam Sushi all over

-ni

Turns 270-280
Spoiler :

Still more spamming. Finishing off tech for infantry and then we’ll do mass upgrades to inf and artillery and destroyers, and then we’re off to…. Hit on someone again….

Turns 280-290
Spoiler :

Hehe, Willem still has no oil. I’m still upgrading my units & drafting here. I guess I have all the time in the world so no rush just yet. All tech power has been on 0 for a while now. The one thing that bugs me though is that the specialist-GUI always seems to put a priority on selecting spy specialists.

Turns 290-300
Spoiler :

We blew our own war-horn again. Landing on two separate islands. By the way, it was nice of Willem to complete the 3GD just as we were hitting the DoW button, and the Apollo too!

In screenshot for 290-300 and 200-210, i notice you have a forced peace treaty with several other civs. 3 civs in the first one and 2 civs in the last one. Is this a trick I don't know about? Are u begging each civ for like 10g for a force peace treaty before you DOW to stop any repercussions you may get?

Typically for Sushi you'll want to snag the free Merchant from Economics rather than try to hunt one down yourself... which I have found can be a big pain. 14 food per city is impressive, though on hammer-poor water maps you probably would have wanted Mining Inc as well, unless you barely have any of its resources. (also you got a bit late, with a merchant ready beforehand and a medicine/corp beeline you can get it relatively early for it to really help you out)

Not even sure how worthwhile corps are on an archipelago map. Execs are trickly to move around from island to island and losing state property can be a large blow with colonial maitenance... even with all the fish.

Yes, I like to save my "begs" for the most opportune moments, and I have a few other tricks up my sleeve.

Turns 300-310
Spoiler :

Man, there really needs to be a way to lock out spy specialists. Every freiken time I get a pop growth it selects a spy slot, even if I have commerce set on to automate.

Anyhow, here is Accident City, accident because I grew a setter by accident, lol. Might as well put him to some good use.

Ohh, and the war with Willem went great. I took those 2 small continents and vassaled him as well as raped his whole navy (free promotions).

And now Justinian is REALLY causing me never ending culture problems. I’ll have to fix that now…

Turns 310-320
Spoiler :

The invasion of Justinian’s little continent was a great success. Though somewhere he sunk a few transports. I can only guess they were loaded with drafted units because he should have been willing to talk for peace already. But instead it’s dragging on and on and despite I have a higher power rating, he still thinks he is winning.

I really would like to end this soon so I can hit Bismark before he gets any funny ideas and builds the internet on me.

Turns 320-330
Spoiler :

Pinged off 2 cities from Bismark, then we made peace. I love it how he’s so easy to talk to after Dowing him. Now I’m starting to crank out tanks, and as soon as my peace-term expires with Justinian, I am off to snip some more cities from his current continent. The way it’s going right now, the other buddy is always stuck in peace-term while I pounce on the other.

Eventually I’ll catch up to the Americans in the votes, when I get a few….. More cities…..

Turns 330-340

Spoiler :

Just as I was taking the last of Justinian’s southern-pole cities to break his back for capit, this happens.

Anyhow, I would have taken a capit earlier, but I had some bad luck with mech-inf against a stupid machine gun, which caused him to go into no-talk delay mode and think he was WINNING the war despite I had him so out-matched it wasn’t even funny.

Also… Someone stole my computer tech the second I got it. I suspect it was Bismark. I also lost the race to Washington because I was so used to the SSE/WE that I totally didn’t realize how piss-poor production wise regular capitals are! Lesson learned.

Turns 340-350
Spoiler :

Started with a dual-prong attack on Bismark, because the AI has no clue how to handle them. I also had to make a fort to get my ships behind his lines, due to culture blocking me. Anyhow, diplo vote went up last turn, I stopped drafting for a bit and am running Suchi again, it’s going to be close. But just incase I fail, I took out Bismarck’s capital this turn, and will eliminate him off this continent (or vassal him) before the next vote anyway.

I don’t care how strong Washington gets, the game will be over to UN because the AI is just too stupid to know what is going on…

Turn 351
Spoiler :
Sorry! Forgot to include shot, but saved files are attached.

Well there you go.. Had a little room to spare there…

The final images and that will be the end of it. Actually, the end of the whole series altogether I think. As mentioned, Immortal seems a bit too easy and now I picked up a few rounds on my most (hated) maps, I'll jack it up to deity.

I'll probably skip the rest of the financial leaders as I still hate the trait, and will probably go through every industrious leader instead since... so many experts here say it's no good on deity. Haha!
