im curious because in all my games i have never ever been friendly w/ shaka but i tend to be friends with Gilgamesh and Mehmed always if ever i encounter them. Shaka on the other hand always find excuses for me to hate him

Damn straight... he's actually been a good buddy of mine in several games... if anything, he might even be considered "easy" to be buddies with.

I dunno... maybe it's just my playstyle, or the fact having a huge military on his border with me makes him respect my civ all the more... dunno... but I've actually had him help me out in wars before.

I actually had a permanent alliance with Shaka in one BtS game. We had the same religion throughout and a common enemy (Brennus, I think) on the same continent. It was an uneasy peace for a long time, I'll admit...

Had a game where he was tucked in the corner next to 1 other civ with 4-5 cities. We shared a religion I was like +5-6 on diplomatics points. he did amount an attack though but he loved me till i decided it was time to remove him from the game. His land was protecting a great GP site.

All the warmongers are pretty similar - share a religion and fight the same person as them, and give them what they demand, and they're friendly before you know it.

This means keeping an army, so their target isn't you, and actually attacking someone. Big commitments, but it's nice if there's only one major warmonger threat as you can team up with him to destroy the global tech rate and grow.

That's the key right there to being Shaka's buddy... you do the above, Shaka is your friend for a very, VERY long time!

I find Shaka to be one of the few allies who will actively pursue a war and has something ready to use. Sometimes it helps to gift him ships.

Just do what The Me In Team and WolfShanze said.

Yes, but he declared war on me anyway. I'm usually on good terms with him, but it doesn't matter, because he'll declare war anyway.

I tried to befriend him and then he went from "Pleased" to DOW on me in one turn. I am still not very happy about it so I make every effort to eliminate him asap in any games he shows up in. Usually I have found that he angers everyone around him and eventually gets beat down by me or another ai or two or three...

Yes. He voted me to a diplo win once. Warmongers are easy to befriend as long as you always join in on their wars.

Not quite. Shaka values religion very little, so you won't get a huge cheap diplo bonus by sharing his religion. There are other peaceful factors that give you a diplo bonus with most leaders, but not with Shaka. And if you share borders, it's even harder because you get a massive "close borders" penalty very quickly.

Sure it's possible to get along with him, but there are definitely a lot of warmongers who are easier to handle by far, especially the pious ones.

I've gotten him to friendly to try and get him to sign a PA with me one of the rare times I've played with that option on.

He refused to sign it after centuries of shared wars and defensive pacts, so I was forced to win a conquest victory ;)

just occasionally, shaka runs a 2 bit empire, then i have no qualms of being friendly with him..
right now im playing giant earth map (i'll be playing this one gme for weeks i think)..
i've been watching shaka terrify africa with stacks of doom numbering 40 plus each,
a guy like that, i aint getting friendly with because any help i give him, i know will help him win the game.

Shaka tried to get friendly with me once, but I told him I wasn't into that kinda thing. I had to swat his hands away. :goodjob:

He's hard work to be friendly with but not IMO the most difficult, sharing religion is minor, but generallygiving him stuff should do the trick, and joining in wars (which is the tough part) but atleast he opens his borders to you :) Like mentioned Gilgamesh I always seem to be able to be friendly with :)

I find Tokugawa the most difficult (I've virtually never even got to pleased - I always end up with him being furious and me killing him :D indeed) as he doesn't open borders and rarely has a religion! Only ever got Friendly with him due to him vassaling with me.

He's not my type but I knew this girl once ...

In my present game I have both Shaka and the Aztec "Madman" Zummy as my best buddies same religion etc .

My little pitbulls who I am always giving things to for free (tech, money, resources) as I have plenty to spare which allows me to set them on Hannibal who is in the lead.

So I have all 3 in a state of war when I feel like it, which is kind of funny as not a single City has changed hands and if one side seems to be getting the upper hand I step in and get someone to declare peace.

And long may it contimue :goodjob:

Shaka is a good partner if you can be friendly with him. Just watch out in case he tries to DoW on you and back stab you.

He can't if you're friendly with him, unless you got him to friendly after he was already planning an attack. The only leader who can/will attack you at friendly is Catherine.
