Has Soren killed his own AI?

Reports are starting to trickle in.

Increased penalties for rushing in Communism has resulted in the AI starving itself from size 20+ metros to less than size 6 towns.

Ironic isn't it that in his quest to twart the human's ability to decimate the AI Soren has become the mass murderer of thousand of AI civ pop bits. 11111111>11110000>00000000

This of course is a gamebreaking expedition into the realm of unintended consequences.

Please post your experience with this folks so that we can establish that this is indeed happening and persuade Soren to address it.

Forbidden: Do not suggest this can be fixed in the editor!

I have seen that, too, and I do think that it goes too far. Especially since it is not towns rushing defenders that would otherwise fall for sure, but alos the Hinterland that could better be used to produce attackers the normal way to counterattack. Also the AI does it in peace, too, when it starts gearing up for war, and then ends up loosing a winning campaign because it runs out of money. i one saw 4 Cavalary unit disappearing during 4 turns into thin air - only to find in peace negotiations that the other guy was sooooo broke - that they were disbanded - one per turn.....

After having read your posts for the past week or so, I have just one question for you:

Who at Firaxis hired you and made you Soren Johnson's boss?

Yup, I've seen this too. I even play with the penalties dropped to 20 turns (from 40), to give the AI a better chance. I still see the commies starving themselves to death. A few big cities, but mostly very small ones.

I may have to try dropping the penalty down to 10 turns. If that doesn't work, I'll just eliminate it altogether.

Hmmm... maybe it can be fixed with the editor! ;)

What is your point Jimcat?

What is wrong with pointing out where the game is broken so it can be fixed?

Soren has said that one of the problems with programming the AI for Civ3 was that the rules kept changing right up to release. Post release he has changed the rules more...don't you get a chuckle when those rules changes wreck his AI? I do.

My posts are pointed > towards getting gameplay improvements.

Your post was a pointless attack on me personally.

Which is more valuable to the community? I know which.

I just want to warn everyone out there that this problem exists. I can't see the point of investing tons of time into the game if the AI is set up to fold up in the late game because of this oversight.

2 things to try:

1. Set the number of unhappy turns down. Perhaps all the way to 1 turn or even 0 turns (if possible).

2. Change commie governments to use money to rush, not pop. Also lower the draft limit.

I agree this sucks if it broke the AI. Doing #1 should make it more or less like previous patches.

Have people found that the A.I plants way to many forests and thus hammers their capacity to produce food and then bump up population quickly should Hospitals come or they have taken large population losses for whatever reason.
