Doesn't matter anyway since this game decided to use Steam.
Right, but if you can't unlock and play until Tuesday I figured they would have shipped physical copies by now.
They normally ship copies fro online pyhsical orders 2 days before release.
Since the game is released on a tuesday, two days beofre is a sunday on which e tailers are closed.
So they should ship on Monday, meaning that around 80% of people will get it on tuesday, 15% on Wednesday, and 5% will be delayed or lost in transit
I have mine through steam already. Pre-loaded it. The remaining bit I have to download will take less time than it would take to install the DVD. I used to be a box collector, but no one ever looks at them not even me. Never had one problem with steam, had so many issues with DVD's too. Lost cd-keys, getting the game updated, scratched cd.

Yes, it shipped several days ago when I downloaded the entire game off of steam, so that it will unlock and be ready to play the moment the game is released. But I'm sure the quick start guide is quite nice
The last game I preordered a hard copy online (off amazon) was WoW: Wrath of the Lich King. My brother opted for a gamestop midnight release version, and I got to watch him play for hours, until my copy came about 14 hours later via UPS

They typically ship on Friday before, or Monday.
e-tailers keep a supply of newly released products at most of their warehouses to minimize shipping times. (so it's coming from the nearest major city, not somewhere across the country)
Finally, I don't know how theyre working it, but if you got your code e-mailed to you in advance, you can just add it to steam and download just like someone who bought it from steam.

It's possible some retailers shipped them around at the end of the week so they would be arriving Monday at distribution centers nearer to the recipients.
I know Best Buy and other BNM stores already have it in stock, so they've been moving around. You don't always get alerted where your package is at with the online Fed Ex (or UPS, or especially USPS) tracking information in real time (rarely do you, in fact). Many times I ordered release day shipping from Amazon and the status still said something like "waiting to ship" until AFTER I had recieved in the mail, then some time later it was updated (all at once) with the routing information and the "devliered" status.
In other words, no one will have any idea, but if you paid for release day arrival, you'll get it (and if you don't you'll get free shipping out of it if you complain).
So is there a way, if you ordered it from Amazon, that you can download it from steam before it arrives in the mail?
Just curious, I bought it on Amazon cause I had gift certificate money online that I wanted to use, but would of course like to play the game as soon as possible
