Having Trouble with the Conquests

Been trying to edit the Sengoku scenario to get rid of the manditory domination goal so I can enjoy a good war mongering game, I can change it in the editor, however when I goto play, the victory conditions haven't change.

I fiddled around with all the other conquests along with removing things like victory point scoring or altering the maximum turn limit and they won't change either.

Click on Scenario Properties and look for victory conditions on the top right. Hold down ctrl button and select/deselect victory conditions you want (I use conquest and regicide for sengoku). Then VERY IMPORTANT, click on 'apply' at the bottom of that screen, then 'okay' and the scenario properties pop-up will close, then save.

Thats what I've been doing, in the editor I've removed domination, but when I start Sengoku up, its still selected.

Well, i've been playing a while with the editor, and obviously there are often problems whit the kind of game you select; to get rid of this odd behaviour (you select an option like "regicide" in the editor and another is actually selected by default), i let checked the boxes "default victory conditions" and "default rules" in the scenari properties tab of the editor, and I take care to remember to review the activated options before starting a game.

To be honest, the c3c game that is installed on my computer has been tweaked and beta patched, i'm not sure everyone has got this behaviour, but it existed with PTW.

Oh, and by the way, I'm sure there was a version of the editor where, on the minimap, you could see the different civ colours; now I haven't this feature anymore, didn't find any options or hotkeys !!

cheers,
johann (who wonders if he's not reporting things already posted thousand of times ont the forums)

Are you positive you are changing the correct Sengoku biq? The SP version you should be changing is found in the \Civilization III\Conquests\Conquests folder. There is also a Sengoku MP biq in the \Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios folder which is the default folder that the editor opens.

Conquest game and Scenario game are different files. You can edit Scenario but you cannot edit Conquest game.

If you want to customize the rule for Scenario, then you should load this particular Scenario and play it but do not play the Conquest game.

Tell me why you'd need remove Domination to allow for a good warmongering game? Domination, along with Conquest, is a warmonger's victory condition ...

Domination is not warmonger style; its just another premature game ender like the lame cultural and space endings. In domination you only need to take over like 1/4 or so of the worlds population to win but with conquest you need 100%. Basically conquest only is best cause it allows you to keep playing as long as you want and you can quit at whatever point you want or take over everything. Why have your game end suddenly and prematurely? :crazyeye:

Yup. I'm opening the right one, not the MP version.

It's 25% of world pop in Sengoku? Well, then I can understand you not liking it. I was thinking of 67% of population and territory, like in the Epic game.

Because by the time you control 2/3 of pop and territory, the outcome is not merely beyond reasonable doubt, but all challenge is gone. Finishing it to total world conquest is either an excercise in the scientific dismantling of already defeated enemies, which gets old quickly, or a mindless charge thru the same, which isn't fun the first time. And not finishing it to total world conquest, but allowing your rivals to live on would deny you any claim to the noble title of warmonger!

I think that this fits into this thread because the question is similar.

The original Rise of Rome conquest was planned to allow the human to play as the Egyptians, Celts, Goths or Scythians as well as the four empires. I tried to change the Conquest so that all of the civs were playable by checking the above four in CivEdit as human players, but they still don't appear on the list of choices to start the Conquest. Any ideas on how to fix this?
