Hearts of Iron III CD Problem

I lost my CD key and I need to reinstall the game. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to uninstall and then install the game again. So, how do I get my CD key back again? I know that some people have written programs to retrieve CD keys from games that have been installed, but I can't find any for HOI3. Is there an easy way to get it back again?



If any of you have an unused CD key, that would be appreciated, too.

Didn't you register on Paradox's website to download patches and have access to some of the forums? If you did so, your CD-Key should still be accessible via your account on their website. If not, well, I dunno...

I didn't register. And unfortunately, they make it so difficult to get on the forums. I know it's a good idea to register from the start, now. I didn't know you had to register in order to use their forums. That's the only time I've ever seen a game do that.

It's weird, too. Ever since I downloaded the patches, the game has been crap. It crashes more and more.

I don't think the gamestops around here even carry Paradox games I've seen the steam rant threads, I ignore em. It's a necessary evil!

The thing is, you don't register = no help for you. The forums, from what I've seen, have very few people compared to CFC. It's . How are you supposed to get support for this kind of stuff?

I wasn't saying you should get support from there, I was just saying that when you want to download patches from Paradox's website, or have access to some mods and certain downloads, you have to register your game using your CD-key. That is their own copy-protection control system, and that is one of the best systems I think. Anyway, I was saying that if you had used your CD-key to register your game on the forum, you would have been able to retrieve it by yourself by looking at your account. It was an idea, but it doesn't apply to you since you don't need to log on Paradox's website to get patches; steam provides its own copy protection just by being what it is.

EDIT: You still could have registered your game even with a Steam account. The game still has a CD-Key. But you would have had less incentive to do so, because the game automatically updates through Steam.

I do have the latest update 1.4. So my HOI3 is FUBAR and I just need to reinstall it. The thing is, I can't uninstall it via the control panel for some reason. Retrieving the CD key won't even help me right now... Ideas?

I'm confused. There's a key on your comp somewhere, but you can't retrieve it? If you try looking harder, I suspect it is in a ascii/text file somewhere in the installation directory.

maybe he lost the manual/case/wherever the key went, I think he wants to know if he can dig it out of the windows registry.

I've done it before with some games, but I have no idea if HOI3 even stores them in there, or where it keeps its registry entries.
