Heirs to Heaven

OOC: my suggestion is to not take them head on yet but rather spread them out a bit first so they're not adjacent to one another. Just a suggestion

Unless of course they hit us with all 24 of their divisions.

In that case we are screeeeeeeeeeewed.

Extension given. Can't make it any later.

ooc: Let's just slam them with espionage. Assuming 100LG is the max, if we all chip in 10EP we can do a number on their stability.

Also, gun inf are 2EP in upkeep while gunboats are 30EP. These are spooky numbers.

OOC: This is assuming that they even abide by the LG mechanic as we understand it.

OOC: House Taran and House Thustra aren't going to assist with fighting the Dominion until we know that you all aren't trying to diddle us over.

And frankly the plauge is a bigger threat to both of us at the moment.

ooc: ok no plan whatsoever that's cool

No there is a plan, it's called "everything is normal."

is "everything is normal" means the war between the houses goes on? Or does it mean there is a peace?

It is hard to plan without a homeland, so all you "grave danger we gotta plan" that have just invaded half the kingdom, please, plan, send your armies against the menage, and let those you tried to destroy a moment to breath some air.

so wait

the gun gaijin aren't actually a house
does that mean the game still ends if all the houses support nuke and we steamroll the church?

yo so I think you didn't update my EP or IC this turn cause I have the exact same numbers for both and I know I put some money into infra

this means I can't actually do my orders right now so I guess they'll be late

Your stats are correct, your IC from provinces increased, but was countered by having much less MP. Your EP from provinces slightly increased, but was countered by slightly less trade EP.

Update will hopefully be out in the next few days. Hopefully late people can get their orders in by then.

Year 418 Of Our Lord, Spring
Twenty-four months after The End

Heaven’s Civil War Coming to a Close
For the past year and a half the Grand Alliance and the Summer Pact, and later the Coalition of Heaven, have waged the fiercest war the Kingdom has seen for four centuries. After two failed peace attempts, it seemed as if the war would continue until half of the continent was burned to ash. But with the landing of the foreign Dominion, many of the warring Houses have put aside their differences, quickly reconciling, trading captured territory, and finally pledging support for House de Toullies. In the South, House Mephs returned Hammerhold to House Faulhamer, with the latter in return dropping its claim on Castle Braxton (now called Castle Mephs by its conquerors). Likewise, House de Toullies returned the wartorn Crat-Ror and Toolei provinces, while Lion Island was once again completely under Toullies control with Lamere’s occupation force returning to Davensport. In the North, House Lamere banners once again flew over Lamere Island, and in return House Taran returned Tsuk to House Polud. Nobles, clergy and commoners alike greeted the return of their rightful and God-chosen lords, though not all is settled. Merchants are likewise rejoicing across the continent, as embargoes between the Thurian Houses and the Grand Alliance are ended. There remains some contention over the fates of conquered provinces whose original ruling Houses no longer exist. In addition, House Koriates and House Arimathea have yet to return occupied Isaakios’ and Mephs’ provinces. Though the process of reconciliation is still ongoing, Heaven is well along the path to peace.

Efforts to End Black Breath Grow
With the Civil War no longer requiring the full attention of the Great Houses, more resources have been put towards dealing with the plague creeping across the continent. Northern territories under Polud, Koriates and Church control continued to see brutal methods of suppressing the cough, stemming its spread. House Taran took a gentler approach, building a large number of field hospitals to take in the sick and dying. While the hospitals didn’t save any patients, and resulted in a majority of their staff succumbing to the disease as well, they did manage to reduce the spread of the disease, as the sick were focused in one safe location rather than wandering about before dying in a ditch. Efforts in the south to stop the disease were minimal, with armies trying to keep order, but were not terribly effective without additional funding for facilities, or permission to use extreme force. Despite the increased focus on combating the Black Breath, it continues to claim tens of thousands of lives. In fact, in the south, House Faulhamer intentionally spread the disease west, sending the sick and foolhardy towards foreigner occupied lands, carrying plague infested corpses. The Dominion appears to have tried to send the sick to healers and doctors, but already their camps are overflowing with the dead and dying.

The North

The Song of the North Koriates, House of Koriates
The rise of the Choir of the Orchards was something of a sideshow to the rest of the Kingdom, with most of the Great Houses preoccupied with the Civil War ceasefire, the uniting of the opposition churches, fighting the Black Breath, and preparing against the foreign invaders. As such, besides the northern Houses, few took notice when news stopped coming out of Koriates land. Traders were only allowed through strict border controls into small quarantine zones, limiting what they could report back to the south. The first sign that all was not right in the wide northern orchards came when the haunting song of the choir drifted as far south as the Bloodrock Plains and Crysslagh, and as far west as Elllen Yee. It carried on the winds, a low howl that never broke or rested, and twisted in its melodies were faint screams. Eventually a small number of refugees managed to escape into Lamere, Polud and Taran lands, bringing their tales of horror. Across Koriates lands, the faithful and any who spoke out against the choir were being burned at the stake, their dying screams being lifted into the song of the Choir. Entire villages and towns have been reduced to soot, and saplings quickly break through the ash to join the great orchard. Groups of lower nobles, surviving clergy and faithful commoners rose up in attempt to stop the slaughter, or to escape, but all were suppressed and slaughtered by the Koriates’ Watch, or worse yet, simply disappeared after marching off against the Choir.

Pogrom Destroys Cult, Massacres Across Polud Lands Follow Noveria, House Polud
The growing Cult of the Jackal was ruthlessly targeted by Polud troops this spring, triggering a widespread pogrom. Cultists were butchered and burned in the thousands by soldiers, clergy and commoners alike. Whole villages were laid to waste if the symbols of the Jackal were found, Cultists killed to the last man, woman and child. But the violence did not end with the last dead cultist. As the pogrom slowed down, the Holy site of Ellen Yee was the scene of a week long massacre. Survivors rant of a woman, her naked body sickly and decrepit, appearing in villages and towns, her face stretched and deformed, baring teeth too cruel and twisted for a human jaw. She brings destruction, disappearing as entire towns levelled and thousands reduced to stains on in the rubble at the feet of a great Jackal. They say she waits in the Holy temple, only leaving to lay waste to a village for fun, food, or vengeance.

Thurian Houses Bring Order to Isaakios, Minor Riots Continue Veniera, House Isaakios
House Isaakios was in a death spiral in the first weeks of the Year 418 of Our Lord. Peasants were rallying around local lords as faith in the Great House collapsed, and soldiers in the Royal Army were becoming more of a threat than Koriates invaders as it looked like their wages would again go unpaid. While Isaakios did not regain land from the ceasefire between the Alliance and the Coalition, the peace did allow the Thurian Houses to send aid, bringing the northern House back from the brink. A massive loan from House Thustra allowed for the Royal Army wages to be paid, keeping the soldiers under Lord Alexandros’ control, and a marriage with House Taran has gone a long ways in regaining the support of the nobility. Minor riots continued to arise in Veniera and Aonia, but were easily put down by the Royal Army. The reaction to the marriage in Northern Thuria were less than enthusiastic, with a group of minor nobles violently protesting against the move to tie House Taran to a ‘lesser’ House. The gaggle of nobles caused some minor damage in Northeast Thuria, but their small band of house blades were easily suppressed by the Taran Riders.

Koriates Refugees Flee to New Kingdom Sanah, Kingdom of Sanah
The Kingdom of Sanah has gotten off to a rocky start, with House Taran already embargoing the poor Kingdom, as well having its meager population ravaged by the Black Breath. Some see the new independent Kingdom as refuge from the madness of Heaven though, and survivors from the Koriates purge have fled to Sanah seeking asylum.

’Wizard’ Comes to Lamere Court, Promises Miracles Davensport, House Lamere
A hedge wizard has come to Lamere court, promising Lord Alexander miraculous spells if he is accepted into court, and provided with [5EP] in payment. He says he can ward off the Black Breath, the Koriates’ Orchards, and strengthen the resolve and might of Lamere’s soldiers. Most of the court urges Lord Alexander to throw out the charlatan, though a few others suggest giving the man his gold and seeing what he can do, stranger things are about after all.

Polud-Taran Marriage Informally Reinstated, Couple’s Families Urge for Formal Agreement Tsuk, House Polud
House Taran and House Polud have allowed their previously married couple to be with one another again, but the formal declaration of marriage between the Houses is still in limbo. The couple’s family in House Polud have asked Lord Milo to work with House Taran to have the marriage made legitimate once more, for the honour of their line, as well as the honour of the House. Some in the Polud court urge caution, wary of rushing into a marriage pact with a House that they were at war with only a season ago, though others see no reason not to please the noble family, while also strengthening the peace between the two Houses.

The Midlands

Schism Between Opposition Churches Bridged, Formation of the True United Church Crysslagh, The True United Church
The winding down of the Civil War, and the rebuilding of ties between House Polud and House Taran, has allowed their client Churches to also make amends. With the urging of the two Great Houses, Patriarch Matias and Matriarch Patricia have agreed to the Holy Treaty of Crysslagh, merging the two Churches into the True United Church.
Holy Treaty of Crysslagh

1. The United Church and the True Church will be reunified as the True United Church.
2. The True United Church will be headed by a Patriarch and a Matriarch.
3. Unless otherwise specified by this treaty, the Patriarch will have the same powers that the Patriarch did in the True Church and the Matriarch will have the same powers that the Matriarch did in the United Church.
4. The role of the Patriarchy is restricted to men. The role of the Matriarchy is restricted to women.
5. The Patriarch must appoint their own successor or determine their method of succession. The Matriarch must appoint their own successor or determine their method of succession. These powers are immune to the veto power described in Article 6 of this treaty.
6. The Patriarch may veto any decision made by the Matriarch unless otherwise specified in this treaty. The Matriarch may veto any decision made by the Patriarch unless otherwise specified in this treaty.
7. House Taran and House Polud will recognize the True United Church as the only true Church of God and will encourage all other Houses to do the same.
Support for the new, official opposition Church has grown quickly, with pilgrims and converts flowing into Crysslagh after the formal reuniting ceremony.

Empty Fields Overgrow or Die, Unrest Threatens to Erupt Bloodrock Plains, House Taran
The Black Breath continues to choke the life out of the Thurian Peninsula, and House Taran is now feeling the effects of such widespread loss of life. Swaths of land lay untended and overgrown, entire families of farmers dead in their homes. Those families that do still work do so undermanned, often with children and the elderly being forced to till the fields. Nobles are seething with suppressed rage as they watch their lands die, and are starting to turn their anger towards the House. They blame House Taran for taking all the men to die in the war, and the recent marriage to another ‘falling’ House, Isaakios, is only stoking the fires of their fury.

Conference on the Supernatural Reveals Little Oristhia, House Arimathea
Lord James called for learned men from across Heaven to join in a conference in Oristhia to discuss the wave of supernatural occurrences blighting the continent. They unfortunately were unable to provide little direct insight, but they did try to dissect the various events that had happened since the death of God. While He lived, there were little to no recordings of major supernatural events, with God seemingly being the only verified proof of magic. Of course there have always been hedge wizards, fortune tellers and magicians, but most could chalk them up to tricksters and frauds. The first wave of supernatural events after God’s death seems to have been the visions and dreams that plagued the minds of many of the Great Lords and Ladies, followed by the rise of the Black Breath. There is little doubt the disease was brought on by the machinations of Jacqueline D'upont Wychen and her House of witches, but how they did so is unclear. Along with the Black Breath was the beginnings of what would become the Choir of the Orchards in Koriates’ lands, seemingly independent but no less mysterious. Next was the Cult of the Jackal and the massacres in Polud and Arimathea lands, once again the learned men could not draw a conclusion as to where and why the Cult arose, but some do note that the Lady Atkyn had dreamt of a Jackal before disappearing in the Ploud invasion. The arrival of the foreigners is no doubt a monumental occurrence, but the experts are conflicted over whether it is a truly supernatural occurrence. Despite their appearance, the foreigners appear to be human, but their heretical religion and fire spears, not to mention the odd miracle with the crying statue in Ephexsea bring into question how or what brought the foreigners to Heaven. In the end, the conference came to no real conclusion, but many did decide that all the supernatural occurrences were no doubt connected on death and blood in some way.

Crowds Cheer for Léontine the ‘Peace Bringer’ Toullies, House de Toullies
Thousands have taken to the streets to celeberate across Lion Island, singing praises for their Ruler Léontine, the peace bringer of the realm. Where her father brought death and destruction, their new Regent has united the Kingdom without lifting a spear. How much of their praise is truly deserved is questioned by some, but the atmosphere in Toullies’ land is overall very positive and excited.
[House de Toullies: +5LG]

Visions Continue to Keep Lord James on Edge Hamlets, House Arimathea
Lord James Arimathea continues to spend his nights awake, sheathed in sweat, vividly twisted scenes flashing in his mind every time his eyelids fall closed. A continent of corpses, their sunken eyes following him as he walks upon them. A choking mist threatens to choke him with inky black tendrils, while thunder rumbles overhead. Flashes of lightning in the distance show massive silhouettes, one wide and multi-limbed, another with snarling jaws, and another that stretches as far as the eye can see, all raging in the distance, tearing apart the putrid earth. The visions subside as daylight breaks over the horizon, light spilling into his dreams, sending the great beasts scattering into the darkness.

Black Breath Strips Workshops of Craftsmen Hithershore, House Thustra
The Black Breath continues to rage in the southern Thuria, causing great economic damage despite Thustra’s large population. The Workshops in Hithershore in particular are suffering, as expert craftsmen have been falling dead in their shops, apprentices either following them or unable to carry on their masters’ level of work.

Clergy Sends Donations to Great House Bloodrock Plains, House Taran
Local clergy have sent a large amount of their donations on to Lady Nichola, in hopes that she will use the people’s coin to help put an end to the misery being inflicted upon their lands. The local clergy believes the Great House has a responsibility to the people and to God to rid the lands of the Black Death, and hopes House Taran remembers its oath to God.

The South

Foreign Invaders Crush Arimathean and Iskariotan Defenders Ephexsea, Vigh-Piris Dominion
The invading Dominion armies continued their push into Heaven’s South, with the Arimathean Lolland Clansmen and Iskariotan Army being easily routed by the Dominion’s 21st and 16th armies. The remnants of the two defending armies have retreated to Nalo, waiting of reinforcements before the Dominion armies can push forward. With Vastra Harad and Achurance under the Dominion’s chained viper sigil, some merchants across Heaven have begun trading with the regular populations in the occupied province, and have found that the Dominion troops are allowing it. The traders report that the church and nobility have been dismantled in Dominion territory, with the foreign church-military taking over all aspects of administration. The commoners, now called ‘citizens’ seem to live comfortably enough, but are subject to continuous checks and searches for any religious material, and are forced to attend near-daily events held by Dominion priests, teaching prayers and warding gestures, often going on for hours. Attempts to speak with foreign troops are almost always denied, and the merchants are still unable to report what exactly the invaders are planning.

Leodric’s Shieldmates Eager to Fight Hammerhold, House Faulhamer
With Hammerhold being freely returned to House Faulhamer, and Lord Lythric releasing his claim on Castle Braxton, Leodric and his Shieldmates are deprived their glory. Their blood boils, demanding war, and so they turn their hunger west. Leodric begs his father to unleash him onto the foreigners so he can teach them what happens when Faulhamer hospitality is spat on.

Faithful Gather Arms Against Foreign Heretics Nalo, House Iskariota
The Faithful have risen up in Nalo, gathering arms and joining the remnants of the Iskariotan Army. They vow to drive the foreign heretics into the sea and burn every scrap of fabric bearing the viper. The fanatics arm themselves in padded cloth and boiled leather, armed with spears and javelins, ready to face off against the foreigners with their smoke and fire belching arms and brightly coloured armour.

Reincorporating War Torn Provinces Puts Strain on Coffers Castle Mephs, House Mephs
The repeatedly pillaged and looted provinces of Crat-Ror and Toolei were returned to House Mephs, with the survivors celebrating finally being under their old lord’s banners again. The process of rebuilding administration, noble houses and feeding and housing refugees before true reconstruction efforts are made has been a burden though, costing more than expected. Many are still optimistic though, and look forward to seeing House Mephs redevelop the provinces to their former glory.

Commoners Flee Fearing Foreign Invaders Ostra Harad, House Natt och Dag
As reports of the foreign invaders pushing further into the south reach House Natt och Dag’s lands, commoners are packing up and fleeing north. Local nobles are unable to stop them, and indeed, some minor lords have even fled with their subjects, hoping to find calmer lands in the Midlands.

Sorry for the wait, been busier than I’d thought I’d be. As always, check everything for goofs, though after the thursday I likely will be slow on responding to issues.

I’ve decided to try to keep this going past the original end date, which would have been this thursday. I think we can squeeze a few more turns out of this, so I’m going to tentatively say I’ll keep this going until at most update 10. You’ll have a bit more time for orders, and hopefully I’ll be able to get an update out within a week or so after orders are due. Let’s put the deadline on Sunday, September 4th.

Also added a nifty little gif here for updates 0-8

What?

Koriate reminds all that any allegations of supernatural trees in Koriate lands are, without exception, false, and that all who spread such rumors must be returned to Koriates to be tried for both conspiracy against our House and heresy. As agreed upon with other houses, the punishment for such heinous and heretical behavior is to be burnt, presumably with wood fuel.

Warning: everyone's military maintenance is borked. Working on it.

Should be fixed.

OOC Due to my vacation, I literally had no access to my allies or most of my decisions this turn, if something needs me please just keep that in mind :)

Without our capital we cannot begin our rebuilding, and will be delayed even further from aiding in the war... Will we receive our capital this season?

to lord regent Leontine

We understand this has been a misunderstanding, but will we receive Pavile this season?

to Polud

We wish to ask for financial aid to rebuild our lands so that we could more easily hold off the invaders.

OOC: Sorry for not sending any orders but had no access to PC for a few days.

Actually, since I did not send any orders for Sanah and the stats show that Isaakios is still mine, can I remain as Isaakios?
