Ok, so I've had Civ4 for a long time but never got to playing it. Been way too busy to get into a game that demands hours and hours of my time.

But the time has come and before I play the game, I do recall that the game in its natural state had some glaring omissions (no stealth fighters or nuclear subs??).

I see a ton of mods in the mod section but most of them are WAY too historically dependent for a game where you're supposed to re-write history.

Can someone point me to some mods that add sufficiently generic yet more refined units throughout history?

Examples:

ANCIENT/MEDIEVAL:

-Clibanarius/Cataphract (non-feudal organized heavily armored cavalry)
-Treasure Ship (like Chinese junks, a very large medieval ship capable of oceangoing and carrying huge amounts of cargo. Ref: Zheng He)
-Cheroballista (powerful arrow-launching catapult suited for anti-troops rather than bombardment)
-Decireme (huge ancient galleys)

RENAISSANCE/INDUSTRIAL

-Matchlock Musketmen

MODERN:

-Stealth Fighter
-Strategic Bomber (not as survivable as stealth bomber but longer range and more power)
-Tank Destroyer (like A-10)
-Primitive Fighter (WW1 type plane)

FUTURE:

(anything)

maybe, but not liekly that one Mod has all of those.

Right, so I take it that means I have to go into the code of each mod and pluck from each what I want?

your eithier very talented or very naive..

The C&C forum has a decent amount of units and more added on a weekly basis. You may find what you are looking for in there as far as wanting to put the units in. However, it will most likely just be the graphic and you will have to assign all the values to put it into the game.
