Help Before I Destroy My Pc And This Game!

Look; I've faced every single problem possible for Civilization IV. I had the CD 2 Installation issue; XML problem...but I couldn't find anyone else with this problem. I was got through the menu; and then I went through the Single Player menus. But; as I'm watching the video...I click 'Play Now'. The game screen goes black and my monitor turns off. WTH? This game better be pretty goddang good

What's your spec of your machine? Post a DxDiag log if you can.
Check that all your directx/graphic/audio drivers are up to date. Apply patch (assume you have). I think this has happens to a couple of others so hopefully there will be a solution somewhere with the monitor problem.

This usually happens when a program is trying to run a display setting outside the monitor's capibilities. To make sure, hit ctrl-esc and the monitor should turn back on as it returns to the desktop. If this turns out to be the problem, check your monitor's display range and compare it with the graphics settings under advanced>options in the main menu.

Well; I mixed a lot of your ideas into a solution. My monitor was not up to tap with Civilization IV's High Graphics specifications; so I simply lowered it to Low. Now it works fine. I have a great video card as well; which sucks. I need a new monitor. Well; thanks guys. I'm now enjoying this game. It's pretty good.
