Hello all, just signed up here looking to get back into Civ4 after having a break from it for a few months.

Unfortunately after loading Civ4 and the 1.52 update, whenever I load a game I get graphical problems (random colours scattered over the screen), and then the game freezes completely.

I don't have any problems with any other games including FS2004 or Battlefield 2.

My PC is an AMD64 3200 / 2 gigs ram / Geforce 6800 (128mb) with the newest drivers (81.98) installed.

I emailed support but all I got back was "Dir Sir or Madame, please install the latest video card drivers"... If they had actually read my email, I mentioned I had the latest drivers.

So does anyone know a solution to this? I played it before without any problems on this same system. :(

I think there is somekind of issue with the game using the 6800. Have a look at this thread as it may provide some clues and possible solutions: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=134244. It looks like you are describing more or less the same issue.

Just be sure that the card is getting enough power and is being properly cooled.

It runs fine for all other games, but yes this seems to be the same issues as others are reporting... great, guess BF2 will have to do for now :(

I wouldnt' even suggest bothering with the tech support, they just copy and paste generic responses that have nothing to do with the situation (they said to do a defrag... why of course, a defrag is going to fix a graphics issue...)

This is seriously pissing me off... maybe I'll just go back to Civ3 for now, in the mean time I'm going to try contacting Firaxis directly.

Hopefully, the issue with the 6800 will be sorted in the next patch. I think it was working fine with the 1.09 patch just that when the 1.52 patch came out it screwed over the 6800's.

Maybe it is the patch, have you tried running it with the 1.09 patch or no patch at all? Also don't email tech support, it will take them 2 weeks to respond with a form letter. Call them directly and throw a fit until they put someone on the phone that can help you.
