I downloaded D2D from gamestop.com and now I can't download any patches! it says no previous versions installed. i tried downloading the d2d hotfix from gamespot but that didnt work either! what do i do??
You can also try Direct2Drive. They sell the download version and I got my patch there. Not that I can install it since I'm getting the same error many other people are getting.
I think I have a bulletproof solution for those of you who downloaded Beyond The Sword from Direct2Drive.
I was having the same problems of patching my Direct2Drive version of BTS. I could not use the auto update feature on the game and I was not able to get any downloaded patches to work. I finally went back to http://www.direct2drive.com/.
I logged in with the same account I used to download the game. I clicked on the "patches" link in the left column. A list of patch releases appeared on my screen. I clicked on the 8/10/2007 link with the BTS version 3.03 patch. The download manager software I installed to download the game started up and gave me the option to download the patch. I clicked on it. It downloaded the patch. I clicked on the "play" button and then it installed the patch. Now when I check for updates through the auto update feature, it tells that there are no updates needed. Success!
I hope this solves all your problems. For future reference, go back to the Direct2Drive website for all patch releases. It the only option we have for downloading the patch. Please spread the word. Have a good day.
I'm almost certain that if you downloaded any version of civ 4 from Direct2Drive then you have to download the patches from Direct2Drive's website. The auto-update feature and patches downloaded from anywhere else should not work for your game. Also, you will need Direct2Drive's download manager software which should have been installed before you even dowloaded the game.
Once you have updated your game through Direct2Drive's website, use the auto-update feature to check if the patch was successfully downloaded. If it was successful your auto-update feature should inform you that there are no updates for you.
Try it out... If it doesn't work for you then let us all know.
well thats kind of my problem is that its not from Direct2Drive company, its from gamestop.com, and when i called them they said not our problem, email www.trymedia.com because they do all that stuff for gamestop. so i did and havent heard back yet so im keeping my fingers crossed! any other ideas??
Try getting the patch from Direct2Drive's website. All you have to do is create a free account. Sign in with that account and then go through the steps of locating the patch on their website. I detailed those steps in post #8. Currently your patch is the fourth item down on the list of released patches. Try it & tell us if it works.
no luck, that patch must only be for the Direct2Drive brand games. as soon as the installation starts it gives me an error code and says its terminating
Then you need to get on the phone with Gamestop and inform them that you purchased a game from them that you cannot patch. Demand either your money be returned or they find a fix. That should get them working on it. You might want to call them more than once and stress the point again.
Did you have the download manager software installed properly before you downloaded the patch?
