I've been wanting to play this game for a while.

Today I began to install it and the first disc, then it asked for the second disc. I put it in and it seems to freeze for a second, but I let it go and watch TV for a few minutes. After about 5 minutes I glance back at the computer to find it has frozen and says it is not responding. I have to CTRL + ALT + DEL and stuff, and it closes very stubbornly.

At this point I restart the computer, and then try and install the game again. There is no "install" option on the menu! Only "play"! I try and make it play but it doesn't work of course, because only 1 (or 2) discs of the game installed.

I was stumped but then I did a system restore and I could install it again.

Once again, when I get to Disc 2 it freezes and cannot continue.

When I put in Disc 2 this pops up:

What am I doing wrong? The discs are clean, all of my applications are closed...

:(

do you have any other pc problems?
errors on boot up?
changed system settings? etc...

If not:
go into the control panel click add/remove programs find civ4 and uninstall then go to c:\program files and delete the fraxis games folder then reboot..

after reboot run anti-virus and spyware scans once done run disk clean up

start/all programs/accessories/system tools/disk clean up

then defrag your hard drive

start/all programs/accessories/system tools/disk deframentor

Reboot

Install civ4 again this time make sure any anti-virus or spyware programs are closed (not running in the back ground) also do not open any other windows while the install is taking place and only click what the game promts you to. when it comes to disk 2 press and hold the shift key so it doesn't auto play.. but if the window opens just close that window and leave the pc to run for a while

If this fails take the game back

It's not working...

I've gotten it to get through Disc 1, Disc 2 & Disc 3 by holding shift, and then it asks to put Disc 1 back it. No matter what I do, the installation freezes at this point.

Please help, I'm very frustrated

Hey,

I've got the same problem that this guy has, how did you finally make it work? I tried what is suggested, but it does not work. I have already exchanged the game once, so I do not think that it is the cd.

Do I need to click the okay button? This whole thing is getting very frustrating.
