I ran my norton windoctor and it says I have a dll file missing and it cannot repair the error. Is this a major problem?

Does it work afterward or does it close? Either way I'd suggest that you reinstall it:) A dll file is a part of a program that has been put in a separate file, so if the dll file can't be found a part of the program is missing. If the problem is major depends on what part of the program is found in the dll file:)

How do I know what program it is, and then what to reinstall? I don't want to reinstall Windows.

Well, the program you want to start and which tells you that a DLL file is missing is the one you need to reinstall. It might help if you would post the exact name of the missing DLL file here, then we can give further advice. :yeah:

You might also want to search the web for that DLL file, most are downloadable somewhere around. But be sure to get the correct version, the one that matches your OS.
:D

When I run Norton Windoctor, it comes up with this error

"Missing file C:\program files\common files\installshield\professional\run time\0700\intel32\dotnetinstaller.exe" then "...dotnetinstaller.exe cannot access a necessary file mscoree.dll"

Can anyone shed light on this?

Ok I downloaded it, Lucky. Now how do I know where to put it?

Lucky,

I called my brother and he told me to put the file in my windows system directory and reboot. I did so, and now there is no problem. Thank you very much for your help. You were 80% of the solution to my problem.

You are welcome. :yeah:

And something to remember for the future, a DLL is usually found in the Windows\System (or System32 for WinXP) directory. But sometimes it needs to be put in the folder of the program which requires it, too.
