I and Alcib spent 3.5 hours trying to start a multiplayer game using the STBAQ scenario without success. After fixing all the initial incompatabilities, our last problem was:

He was host and when I joined, I had all the civ default units and terrain. When we tried the same thing on the Apocalypse scenario, there was no problem. Somehow the computer new that the Apocalypse game was the same game but not in the case of the STBAQ?

So what is crucial for the joining computer to know that it has the same scenario stored?
Have a look at the mega thread depiciting our saga for some entertainment.

hehehe..looks like you had some fun. From what I read you almost had it.ALL players have to have the scenario in Civ2/files/scenarios.MUST be in the scenario folder.

Assuming you meant the civ2/scenario folder (there is no files folder?), that's where we kept the scenarios. Otherwise the Apocolypse scenario wouln't have worked. The question is why couldn't the STBAQ scenario work the same way?

I have had no problems playing STBAQ on a network on IPX. Is the internet multiplayer system different?

Could it be that multiplayer scenarios must be authored via MGE to work(i.e. X.scn and labels.txt)?

Must the contents of the scenario files be absolutely identical (ie no extra save files etc)?

Actually I re-read that topic and see I was not much help. There is a files folder in the mac version, which I use.

As long as the scenario was in scenarios folder and everybody has it. it is supposed to work.Something made on FW is supposed to work with MGE.

2194 days of war was made with fw and that was has been multiplayed many times. So I don't think thats it.

Its not using the correct files if you are getting regular units which makes me think something is mis-labelled but then it wouldn't work when you played alone.

You used the path start new multiplayer game/tcp-ip/begin scenario?
