Help: Unsubscribing From All Threads For Ever?!

Hi...why the hell is the default: Subscribe to thread that you post in?

And how do I change that?

My mailbox is getting spammed, that's the reason I stoped playing here.

Go to the "My Account" section and then select "Edit Options" from the options on the left hand side. Under "Messaging & Notification" there is a section called "Default Thread Subscription Mode". Under here select "Do not subscribe".

That should do it.

For future subscriptions, that will work. To get the current ones, go here, and you'll have to manually unsubscribe from them all. Click on the check box on the top of the subscriptions, where the column headers are. Then find the drop down at the bottom of the list. I believe it says "Move to folder..." Inside that dropdown will be an option for 'No Email Notification'. Hit that, and do it for every page of subscriptions you have.

Well if you want to still be subscribed to the thread, but not get emails, then just get the no email option. That is what I have done. I am still subscribed to all the threads I have posted in, but I never get any emails. Yeah I was getting spammed with emails until I did that.

Subscription is useful, and you can use it without the emails. Your "my account" page allows you to see all the threads you've subscribed to even if you're not getting emails about them. It's good for keeping up with what you've posted.

(Obvious to many but there are probably folks who hadn't found that.)

This. It's good to automatically subscribe to every thread you post in, then you can do as Lucy suggests. I'm guessing most long-term users probably do that. But you don't want to get e-mails for every response in a thread you post in, you'll get hundreds a day.

I have changed the default behavior to "Subscribe with no notification".

Really, really good move. I think that that will do a lot to avoid driving off new posters with unsolicited email floods.

We could, but I think that most posters want to know if/when somebody responds to one of their posts. Ergo, the default is to notify. We have just changed the default from sending you an email every time a thread is posted to, to "just" updating your subscribed threads list, which is easily checked.

No, subscription is a very handy way to see the threads the user has posted in, and which of them has new posts, at a glance.

That doesn't do the same thing as seeing a list of threads you have posted in and whether they have new posts.

You're joking right ? The subscription thing is why i kept posting in this forum as opposed to other big ones that didn't have subscriptions (back in the days ...). There are lots of days when i can't be arsed to click on 20 sub-forums or search for my own posts.

Anyway, when i registered here i hated the default being put on "receive email for replys on subscribed threads".

I don't remember the defaults now but FWIW I would prefer to keep the default for email notification for PMs. (not saying you changed it but while I agree with the aforementioned change it would be nice if this one could be default).
