Why do all the other countries always ask me to give them stuff for free?!? I have the strongest military, most points and largest country... Sometimes this causes unwanted wars, 'cause I rarely give them what they want!
Yes, I know that it's normal for them to do that, but they do it really alot. It's disturbing.

It happens. I've noticed with the AI is desperate for a resource, they will often demand it. When you get to the point that they really really want it, they will go to war against you, even if your military is bigger/better.

Keep 'em happy. . . give them useless techs, or stupid little GPT for WM deals. It makes it easier in the long run.

Another thing that bothers me almost as much as this does, is when I am the largest and stongest and others want me to PAY THEM for a MPP... Can you believe that! They should be paying me...

You probably got a bad rep then. Oh, well just kill them and don't bother with the MPP.

Are you going to them, or are they coming to you? If they're coming to you, that's pretty audacious. They might figure you can afford it too, since you're the 'big brother country' (and I don't mean 1984's BB).

But if you're going to them, that sorta figures. They might figure you're going to war soon, or are in a war, and if they're being dragged into it, they'll want compensation for it.

So long as you have a strong military and your border towns are well defended along with stacks of artillery-type units, I wouldn't be too concerned...few turns of losing units they'll take peace, hehe

its whey funny when youre really strong and their weak when they demand techs, money, etc!

I love it when it's only you and one other CIV and they want you to pay them for a MPP. Like I'm gonna pay them when there is nobody else but them to go to war with.

I always declare war on them just for asking for such a stupid deal...idiots.

Whenever an AI makes a demand, no matter what the outcome, whether it be reject the demand, a bluff, or a declaration of war, I always go out of my way to make sure that that civ suffers by the end of the game, whether it be destruction, taking most of its cities, or a nuke shower.

Yeah it is. . . game I'm playing now, I had the resources, Korea did not. I had better units because of the resources, but was much smaller. They kept asking and asking, I kept saying no. Finally, they declared war. Now, before the war they were roughtly three times my size, and had about 200 points on the histograph over me. Now we're equal in size, and they have lost their place on the histograph. . . :D

yepp happens to me to!

The ai will make outrageous and not so outrageous demands on you when:

a) they perceive you to be weak
b) you have a bad rep
c) they are desperate for a resource you have
d) they all gang up on you if you are the strongest

Each ai tries win via their most possible method to win. Whether that is histograph or space ship etc.

If your military service is highest then you have the most units and they may pay you to mpp. However, if your units are quality rather than quantity, the ai will want you to pay them.

Demands for tribute are intended to slow you down and help them along. After all, from a game playing point of view, each ai is programmed to win or they explode in a fit of self destruction.

Just like in real life, when you wear a nice suit, people would hit you up for money. On the other hand, if you dress like a hobo, no one would bother to ask you for money.;)

Now, what does this mean in Civ3? The same thing, if you have a resource that you don't use (at least not yet), disconnect it. If it doesn't appear on your trade list, the AI can't possibly demand it. The same thing with money, if you find someone who you can trust, loan them all your money.;) Basically, if you have nothing to give (or to make yourself look like you are poor), they can't possibly demand anything from you.;)

If you give the AI what they ask for, it's easy to be well loved and avoid those stupid little wars that distract from the main buildup.

Yes, it happens.

You could give them what they want, and they'll be happier towards you. Or, if you don't really care, then you can dicker. There's almost always dicker room where the AI is concerned.

I usually just ignore the AI, not even accept their envoy in non-MP games. Not accepting their envoy just makes things a lot easier. In fact, I have had games where I have not even communicated with the Civ except to spy on them, then attack and kill them.

It is funny to see the AI try to repeatedly try and contact you just when you are about to defeat them.

I find Carthage to make especially unreasonable demands (when I accept their envoy, of course). Maybe it is just me, but they seem to be really aggressive.
