Help with error code

Hi all!! I am a newbie to the site, but have been playing CIV II for a long, long time. I have tried later versions, but like the simplicity, and ease on my eyes of the older version.

Lately, I have been having a problem with the game shutting down after I get about 1/2 way through. I get the following error code:

CIV2 caused a General Protection Fault in module CIV2.EXE at 0045:021A.
CIV2 will now close.

It happens just when my game is getting interesting!! BUMMER!

Does anyone know what I need to do to fix it. I did reinstall the software, but got some errors during installation......can't remember exactly what those errors said.

Any advice? Oh, and I am running on XP home version.
