Help with mod installation and use

I have downloaded a fair few mods now, but am not entirely sure how to use them. Can I use several at the same time? For example, can I use BUG and BAT at the same time? Can I use for example StartingPoints mod at the same time as BUG and/or BAT?

The whole thing is just a little confusing. I'm not really interested in mods that make the AI stomp me even worse, but mods for interface, graphics and smaller earth maps which mean I can use realistic starting positions without being able to make a cup of tea between each turn in the end-game would be ace. Unfortunately the Earth18Civ map is too big for my CPU to handle

I also downloaded a dll file that claimed to make the game 50% faster. Can I use this in combination with any of the above? All at once? How do I do that?

I tend to just get a black screen when trying to start a game now, or the menus are all missing.

In general not by default, normally some work has to be done to get 2 mods to start together.

BAT includes BUG .

No, not by default.

The 50% faster mod is relativly easy to merge in.
It should consist of exaclty one file.
Take this file and copy it over to the same folder in the other mod, e.g. BUG. If the folder does not exist, create it. Paste it in there, done.

No menus...you've done something wrong with BUG.

No, not by default.

To expand on this: There is one entry at the top of cveventmanager.py

If you copy it and paste it in the exact same location but in BUG's cveventmanager, you can merge them.
