Hi All.
I’m looking to get thoughts, tips and strategies on how to improve my “Jason Score” when playing the GOTM.

It is all about speed and territory.

Get as much territory as early as possible and win as fast as possible.

That goes for all victory condistions. Trying to conquer 65% of the map should always be one of your goals in gotms.

If you go for a conquest or domination game, this of course makes choises easy. Now there is only one goal, conquer the world as fast as you can, jason only gives you the extra assignment not to raze any cities, but to keep them all and try to fill the gaps between your newly conquered pieces of land.

If you go for 100k, it also goes pretty much hand in hand. 100k victory needs massive amounts of cities with temples and libraries in them.

When going for a 20k victory, this causes a conflict. You would like to invest all your resources in that one city, but now you also have to maintain a war to conquer an empire. Early in the game is best to conquer an empire, but this is also the most important time for your 20k city. You must find the right balance to do both and get the best score.

When you go for a UN or Space victory, it works better again. Research is now the goal. While you would like to build libraries, units can also greatly help your research. They conquer land that can be turned into specialist farmland. Of course you will do both the libraries and the specialist farms. Because of the jason system, you have reason to give a little more priority over units and build the libraries a bit later than you otherwise would.

Thanks for the replies, guys. This will help me focus my efforts for next month.

Does this mean razing cities is directly detrimental to your Jason score or simply that razing cities will slow down your land grab?

remember, get iron first. Then stack of doom your opponents with Swordsmen. Do not trade away Iron Metallurgy!!!

A good civ for this is China, with Industrious for more shields and military for fast troops, the stack of doom is almost perfect.

The act of razing a city has no direct effect on your Jason score - you just want to maximize territory and population.

Eeeerrrm, I would say that razing had a fairly direct impact on your Jason score. In most situations a captured town adds at least 10 points to your base score for the turn, and a razed town adds nothing, so that is going to have some effect on the Jason score at the end of the day. But of course it may be strategically wise to a raze a town. Then it has an indirect but positive impact on your Jason score. But we are talking small numbers here, in both cases.
Personally, I rarely raze towns, even if there is a high flip risk. But it's mainly just because I like to keep the land occupied. I get annoyed but the sudden rash of barb camps and junk towns that springs up in any unclaimed territory, especially after the REX phase, when the AI has all its unused settlers just sitting around waiting for a space to come available.

Thanks again guys. The ideas expressed have been a big help.
