Does a free promotion acquired from a random event count as a level of experience for the purposes of the Heroic Epic?

I started a game last night as Willem (Monarch, Fractal, Epic), and got the most excellent combonation of copper in my capital's workable area and a random event that gives all my melee troops a free "cover" promotion (bigger shields or somesuch). I used this lovely bit of luck to put a quick end to Frederick, who was just to my north. I'm wondering, though, if I'll have a unit of sufficient experience to build the HE once I research literature. My cover-promoted axemen were so efficient that none of them had a chance to earn significant additional promotions.

I'm usually not a very good rush-attacker (too indecive) but I plan on taking further advantage of this nice little stroke of luck. Hello there, Mr. Roosevelt! :satan:

No, just like units that start with free promotion to not count as being a level higher.

What exactly does "level four" experience mean?

What's the quickest way for me to find out if I have any such units? Do I just have to look through them all?

when u have a unit selected it should tell you what level he is in the bottom right corner of your screen, along with all his promotions etc etc. level 4 is (i think) 17 exp points.

Probably the quickest way is to examine a city and see if it can build the epic. If not then its likely because you don't have a unit with a high enough level.

If you play as a CHM leader, you get a level 4 unit with only 13XP. :)
Hello Boudica. ;)

I'm quite sure level 4 is 10 experience.

L1=0
L2=2
L3=5
L4=10

Er um, :blush: like I meant, a level 5 unit with 13XP.

Sorry, I was just responding to CharlieM's question, although I suppose with my post coming just after yours it could look like nitpicking. :)
