I need to know I'm doing the right thing. I am Greece. I have no iron. Suddenly, I get the "We have discovered iron" message. Sadly, said iron is on an island, next to Knossos. I don't know how to connect it with the rest of my civilization. I'm pretty sure I have to build a harbor, right? and then another harbor somewhere in my bigger place? I'll show you a screrenshot so you know what you're dealing with.

Okay...Knossos is connected to the rest of Greece by coastal trade routes (as can be seen by the three arrows forming a triangle above its name). Thus, connect Knossos to the iron with a road and mine, and voila, you have iron! Now go on and massacre the general area w/ your swordsmen!

I was thinking I'd use crossbowmen. Cheaper, but still powerful.

Harbours aren't necessary for a trade connection. As long as you have Sailing, a line of coastal tiles count as a trade connection, and you can see that Knossos is already connected to the network. All you need now is to build a road linking the iron to Knossos, and you'll be able to use it everywhere.

So what happens when I'm playing continents and a rescource I want is on one continent while my civilization is on the other? How do I get the resource.

As long as the resource is connected to a city that has those three little arrows by its name (and there are no blockades or anything), you have access.

You don't.

Fluff. Okay. Thanks for your help.

Not without a city. See a resource you like on another continent? Ship a settler.

Oh. Okay. Gotcha.
