Hey, it works! But for how long?

I think I'm woefully below minimum specs. Laptop AMD Athlon TF120 1.6 ghz (i don't think that's even dual core is it?) and a crap video card that it would take too many clicks to tell you what it is and I'm sleepy.

I was resigned to not playing Civ V, would just wait till I got my next computer. But in a flush of optimism I downloaded the demo and it works just fine. I've turned the graphics to minimum, natch. Takes a long time (30-45 seconds? We are so impatient now) to load and there seems to be an increasingly long time between turns. It's not much worse than Civ IV was on my old old laptop, though. I've played the free 100 turns with each of the three civs in the demo. I don't love the game yet, but it's interesting and the thing works and I'm considering buying it.

My question is: will things get so slow and annoying past the 100 turn mark that the game becomes unplayable? I think the demo settings are for small world and standard time. In Civ IV I pretty much always played standard world and epic time. Would that even be possible or desirable? My tolerance for unplayability is pretty high and long times between turns actually suits my lifestyle pretty well (I'm reading, cooking, taking care of my infant son, etc).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It WILL get slower, very much so. That CPU is at about 1/3 of the "minimim" specs. I'm getting turn times of about 10 seconds around turn 200 on a "small" map, and my CPU is roughly five times faster than yours. And the game is far from over at that point.
