That D... Danneskjold?

Are you dying for the Vikings to be readded as a tribe? Maybe we should make a new civ called "Strikers". :)

Scientific & Industrious. Can't conscript units. Special civ unit is, of course, the leader. So you can build leaders and rush to all the Wonders. But, you're not allowed to trade with any other nation.

Well, you're obviously well-read, but I chose that name for the political, not ethinic, ramifications. I'm the guy that came up with the Polish civ. :)

Why no trade? Why not commercial/industrious. Do elucidate.

Heh... I may have confused two concepts there.

Vikings was a reference to the ethnic character of Ragnar Danneskjold himself, and his subsequent personal actions in the story.

Strikers was a reference to the overall theme of the book and the actions of its heros. No trade with other civilizations would be allowed because, of course, the point of the particular civ would be that they're on strike.

Commercial vs Scientific -- I just thought Scientific was a better representation of the theme. They were, after all, all the brains.

The extrapolations are interesting. For example, the Striker civilization might be allowed to build only a single city. Not allowed to trade with any other civ. But be able to build their own Great Leaders, thus nabbing every Wonder. You'd end up pursuing a megapolis strategy. Oh, and their starting technology would be Democracy, so you can immediately have that government.

Anyway, it was just a joke. :)

To pursue this frighteningly off-topic discussion slightly further (at the risk of justly being banished to a lesser board), I still argue for Commercial over Scientific as a) the book was all about capitalism and b) all those "leaders" ran the gamut from Industrial to Scientific to Cultural (but not Religious).

No trade? Hmmm, that was due to philosophy, not xenophobia. Maybe trade only with Democracies.

Man, we're setting these guys up for a good smacking. Can we make their capitol "Stealth"?

Special Unit: Recruiter - able to take other Civs' leaders. ;-)

Looks like we were banished. :)

Well, with the game parameters, I thought the Scientific effects of improved research and bonus advances would make the most sense.

In truth, if we're going to give them the terrible disadvantage of no trade, perhaps they should be Commercial, Scientific, Industrious, Religious (philosophic and artistic -- but they aren't distinct in the game). Everything but Militaristic and Expansionist.

!!! They're *on strike!* They can't trade. Even with a democracy, we're still talking a democracy that's charging taxes and waging war; democracy demanding the sanction of the victim.

Although, one might argue that Miss Rand, at least, was xenophobic. ;)

LOL Absolutely! Automatic SAM, Barracks and Coastal Fortress, too. The Strikers start with Democracy and Nationalism (identity), and you can draft 50% of your population as riflemen in the event of a direct attack without city resentment.

Minimum science is 30%. Minimum luxury is 30%. We permit no Caesars.

New Wonders...
Static Electricity Engine: Adds one productivity to all tiles.
Rearden Steel: Doubles all shield production in city (only 'cause the game doesn't have a "triple" option. hehe )
Wyatt Shale Refinery: Allows oil resource availability from any mountain tile.
Concerto of Deliverance: Makes 5 content citizens happy
Rio Norte Line: Double trade output of all tiles.
September 3rd (Brother, you asked for it!): Cuts productivity of all rivals by 50% for 20 turns. (reverse Golden Age)

Special Unit: Recruiter - able to take other Civs' leaders. ;-)

HEHE Love it. Actually, the Recruiter captures any enemy unit.

Small Wonder...
Ragnar's Team: Replaces Espionage Agency and SDI. Makes all spies Elite. Allows free investigation of any city.

We have to find an avatar for John Galt. Oh, and all rivals are never more than polite to you. :)

Since you can only have one city and you can't fight an offensive war, you only have three options for victory: Single city > 20K culture; Spaceship victory; or Diplomatic victory.

20K culture victory = the world finally gives up on self-sacrificial morality.

Spaceship victory = the strikers escape to Alpha Centauri (even listen to '2112?')

Diplomatic victory = the world's governments finally give up trying to control.

You could almost actually set up the rules for this, y'know. :)
