History PhD student and Civ6 streamer @Paisley_Trees and her colleague Dr. Crow have made another video with a focus on the middle east, this time focusing on Persia in Civ7.
They pin down which of the Persian empires is actually in Civ7, how the unique ability of Civ7 Persia fits really historically, how the Immortals are the most historically accurate so far from all the Civ titles, and a lot more interesting things.
Take a look at the video!
Watched it last night. A good look into Persia and Xerxes. I knew it was weird that Xerxes has a trade route ability instead of a builder ability! It just seemed off to me.
I'm still hoping they're leaving design space open for a builder-and-war-focused Assyria alongside Persia's "all war, all the time" design. I thought Civ6's Persia design, for example, was a very suitable design for Assyria.
I'm glad that they find the Immortals of Civilization V the most accurate (aside from the spear tip). That's my opinion as well, and I had expected that look to return in Civilization VII.
Thanks for sharing! Was a bit nervous about this one since I know lots of civ fanatics know a lot about Achaemenid Persia, and like we said we’d love to hear if others have more nuance or corrections to add
