I like this one since my grandfather, who fought in the Pacific (joined the Air Force when he was only 17), kept the newspaper with the headline: WAR! In 60pt red font.
The Japs didn't know what they were in for :p

By the way, it's August 15. VJ Day! :D

Eh, couldn't get the picture on, so there's the link.

    Spoiler :

this is the only one (at least the only one I've known) photo of F. Chopin

these are pictures of Wieluń, which was bombarded by luftwaffe for no apparent purpouse on the first day of ww2. This historical church appears to have had a lot of luck.
    Spoiler :

this is an aerial picture of Frampol, a small city in Poland, which was used by german forces as a living poligon for testing new kinds of of bombs and such. The picture is before and after bombardement. After ww2 the city was demoted to the rank of a village and only recently regained city rights, although the number of inhabitants is still less than a half of pre-ww2 one.

this is R. Siwiec, who put himself on fire (and die) in a protest against intervention of USSR, communist Poland, eastern Germany, etc in Czechoslovakia

I got it from a veteran's site years and years ago. I wish the site was still around so I could find out the story behind it.

    That photo seriously looks fake.

Though I can't see why someone would want to fake a photo like that.

It reminds me of the two American civil war paintings of Lincoln's and Davis' cabinet in which the poses were basically the same but the faces different.

It may have been fake, but I recall seeing on picture and several variations (at least 3 or 4 times someone was removed) over time as Stalin had people removed, anybody have an idea what this may have been?.
