Sweden-Canada 5-2

The first and second period was great, very fast and exciting hockey. The last period was rather lame from both teams.

The canadians where totally outplayed, but Im sure that they will improve and become even better the longer the tournament continues. Rematch in the finals perhaps?

What do you think of the match and the tournament?

I fully agree with your view. It was a great game for two periods, and the Swedes were fantastic.

Yep, great game for the two first periods. Boring last one. But it was kind of fun to see the Canadian team try and try without getting anywhere, while the Swedes just circled around yawning.

Anyway, better luck next time, Canda.

As for the USA, we will mop the floor with them. Just wait and see.

it seemed like the big different between sweden and cananda was that sweden knew how to play without the redline offside rule. the swedish tactic is made for the new european rules and you saw the restult yesterday.

canada was sunk by sweden

Well, I only saw the 1st period and I was quite aslept already But I admit it was great, especially since it was the first time I watched winter olympics I had no time before and I was not a fan of that. But I love ice hockey.
Just sleeping off topic from this match, I really regret the glorious USSR team in the late 80s, before the USSR collapsed. This was surely the greatest team ever, with only professional players. Their game play style was unmatched, even by Finnish nor Canadians... sigh... outstanding game, they always crushed the opponents with 5-6 goals difference and their game was always elegant and nice.

I can´t say that I miss the Sovjet Union, but I totally agree that hockey will never be the same without them. They were always nearly invincible, which made those rare winns unforgettable . Sweet memories...

Ah, the never ending debate about NHL rinks vs European rinks. Probably right about this too. But don´t you agree that Canadians and Americans should have been able to adapt to this by now? I mean, after all these years the somewhat larger rinks can´t still be a surprise to them, can it? And btw, our team has lots of NHL players as well. If Swedish NHL players can adapt, why can´t the Canadians?

Good question I didn't see him either!

This was cool though: I was in a busy shopping centre yesterday afternoon when the game was on. So I stopped in an electronics store and went over to their TV section where there were about 20 TV's tuned to the game and about 30 people (this is NOT a big store!) standing there watching It was great...felt like a beer ad

The Canadian loss (or Swedish win) was a combination of superior Swedish offensive strategy and tactics, poor Canadian defense and some poor Canadian luck (or tactics). I saw plenty of opportunities when team Canada could have put the puck in the net but was either denied by the post, some good Swedish defense or some really crappy shooting. I suppose I could say the same for the Swedish team except for the crappy shooting and good defense part.

I'd say this was a humbling loss and a wake up call to team Canada - just because all of your players are drawn from the most prestigious hockey league in the world does not mean you're an unstoppable dynamo.

If Canada doesn't beat Germany then it's curtains. Actually, if Canada doesn't trounce Germany then it'll probably be curtains.

Well, at least the Canadian Women's Hockey team put a 10 - 0 ass wallomping on Sweden. That makes up for it, right?

Suppose so. Funny, until this olympics I did not even know we had a women´s hockey-team. I wonder why they have never been mentioned in Sweden before. Could it be that they are simply not very good?

As for the future of the Canadian team, I believe that you will get better as the tournament proceeds. You probably just needed someone to remind you that you are not invincible and now that you know this you will be a lot harder to defeat.

i think that canada will also have problems with czech republic. their counter attacks will be hard to stop for the canandians.

Yea, the Czech´s are good. And fast. Aren´t they currently both Olympic and World champions? I sure hope we will be able to defeat them tonight.

Looking forward to a good game, and a long night without any sleep. Oh, my studies will take sooo much damage during this tournament. And I have three exams coming up in two weeks.
