Hello, new here, please excuse my english :crazyeye:

I play again Civ3 (1.29) on my new computer (my old 350Mhz couldnt handle it...) and i decided to play a game, till end, to try to enter the Hall of Fame. Thats because i remember my Civ2 deity game on Europe map with 1,000,000,000 population so maybe i can pull this up again

I tryed 2 days to get a good starting position, i founded her (4 cows) so here i am... Monarch (i little rusty...) huge map, continents most land, 8 AI , i play americans.

I will ask for advice from time to time because, after a lot of time spended on finding a game i will not start another one :)

I plan to end up conquesting, leaving only 1 enemy city on the map. For this i must avoid domination victory. So i must try to not pass over 66% land controled = dont build citys on arctic/desert and raze some enemy cities. Thats correct ? This is my main concern, please somebody explain me a little how to avoid domination victory.

Ill be back with another questions later :) Thanks

Welcome!

I would like to say that you MUST know MapFinder (link from rules thread).
Looking for maps manually is a total waste of time.

Being a non-milker until now, I can only have 1 active in-game suggestion-
Expand in territory fast = HoF for milkers.
The sooner you expand, the higher your point avarage will be.

Hope it helps. :goodjob:
Hope I'm rght. :mischief:

and again, Welcome to CFC's HOFFFFFFF!!!

Welcome to CFC, EnacheVladian. :band:

Some footnotes to your Post:

1. If you INADVERTENTLY (viz. accidentally) trigger a Domination Victory during an HOF attempt, you may reload the game from the end of the prior turn without penalty.

2. In Civ 1.29 and PTW, the Domination Limit for both Land/Coastal & Population is 66.66' %; C3C is 66.0%.

3. Not sure if CRpMapStat works for Civ 1.29......If not, there is a utility program called simply MapStat (See CFC Utility Programs Forum) that definitely does the job! :)

Have fun and feel free to ask questions.............your English is certainly good enough! :goodjob:

I didnt know about those programs, i readed briefly some notes somewhere but didnt care to much. For sure i will look in to them, thanks.

I wasted indeed some 4-5 hours until i finded a decent start position. But the game doesnt look to good now, after i reached 800BC. Here is a description of my situation, any comments are apreciated because if i have no chance of a good game i must start another one.

First, the good things ....

:goodjob: I switched to republic very fast. I'm american, 4 scouts and from around 10 huts from the first 20-30 i got the republic. I think this is a good thing. I dont know about war being republic but everything at his time ... :)

:goodjob: Till 900BC i builded the Pyramids and The Oracle. The rest of them are not so interesting, at least to me.

:goodjob: I have around 30 citys, and still have room for another 20 (generous spacing) till i border fully with the indians.

Now, the bad ones...

 Luxuries : I linked 2 ivory (remote ones) and waiting for the closest wine to be linked (because i'm a maniac with town placements). Thats all and i have a fairly amount of natural land in hands. For the rest i will need to trade/fight. The indians got 5 something at 10 squares from their capitol... and this is only what i see from an old map.

 Resources : I have 2 horses (not easy to take but scouting early has his rewards) and thats all. I dont have iron ( i see 2 iron very far, dont know if my expeditionary will arrive in time). Probably horse trade for iron will be a ok deal. But having plenty is better when negociating with AI :crazyeye:

 Indians, Persians and Russians are my neighbors. Indians are ok but persians and especially russians are very annoyed. Probably i will have to fight very soon and i dont like it. Romans and English are far away on the same continent. No word about the rest of them (3 civs).

My main concern, and question, is if its posible to fight a offensive war early (prior 10AD) under republic.

Or to wait that wonder who switches governments without anarchy ? And only after that start waring ?

There is no such wonder anymore. If I remember right, the Pyramids used to do that, but now they provide a free granary in every city on that landmass.

For no anarchy, you would have to play a religious civilization.

So no easy government switch  , it would take at least 10 turns only to go monarchy and back to republic, not to say about a posible democracy near end.

So the question remains, its posible a early offensive war under republic ?

And another question about spaceship : if i finish conquesting than the spaceship bonus points are lost. So how its better ? to send a spaceship near 2050 or to capture the last city in 2050. From the scoring perspective :p

Thanks for all advices.

You may want to look in here: (especially under the articles subforum)

If you're going to milk, the best thing to do is end on 2050. Conquest versus spaceship doesn't really make a difference.

10AD , my score is 975, runners up are the persians with 550 (3 civs not contacted yet). Its good ? or bad ?

I have around 45 cityes, compacted, 3 luxuries (i got a remote one :) ), 2 horses, 1 iron. I researched 5 sciences on the 2nd page, the 6th will come in 3 turns.

All 5 other civs are 4-5 techs behind me (thats because they still searching for monarchy/republic probably).

Hof specialists :crazyeye: please tell me what you think, if you were in this position youll go on with the game ?

Anywhay this is becoming more enjoyable every hour so probably, unless a catastrophe arrives, i will finish this one :D

I consider that a good tech position. Although the most important thing is that you're finding it enjoyable.

I remember something from 1 year ago. I gived a shoot to a deity game (huge, 8 players) on my AMD350, i quited around 1500AD because of lack of speed (unfortunately i lost the savegame because that was a game that i miss, nice one).

Anywhay, i remember that , in 1500 AD, i was 3-4 techs from ending the tech-tree. All civs on the map where 2-4 techs behind. I had 200 armors conquesting the most advanced civ to prevent their spaceship from launching. 1500 AD :) :D

Probably now, in 1.29, there is a slower research rate. It was somehow hilarious to finish the tech so fast. Its true that all the civs cooperated and exchanged techs all the time but never the less...

Back again with a new set of questions :)

My game is going fine, i'm in 1300 AD, i have left 5-6 tech on the 3rd page, all of them discovered by myself with no help because all the 8 AI civs are 8-10 techs behind. Now is sure that around 1750 there will be nobody left on the map :crazyeye:

I have some questions, any response is welcomed, thanks for help.

:nuke: 1. Where is the engineer ? I remember that the worker had an upgrade, now i cant see them anymore. I will finish the game with this guys with shovels ?

:nuke: 2. Forbiden Palace cannot be selled ? My empire grows and i need a new locations for optimal covering. But it seems like i cant sell FP.

:nuke: 3. If 2. is true than is ok to use Palace Bug ? From what i readed in HoF rules this is ok but i want another confirmation.

:nuke: 4. I can use Right of Passage rights at fully extent ? This mean that i'm used to finish 1 civ completly in 1 turn deploying hundreds of tanks near their cities and declaring them.

Thanks ;)

1. Workers don't upgrade in III.
2. FP can't be sold but can be rebuilt elsewhere.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.

About question 1 -
There are no engineers or the like, but the workers do go faster in Democracy, and also after the discovery of "Replacable parts", so if that's the goal that's the way.

My 12 cents (and raise a dime).

I just founded that my domination limit is 3920 tiles. Is this good or bad ?

And another question : when capturing/razing a city the culture value of that city is taken/destroyed for the owning civilization ? It seems to me like a civ can remain with 1 city but with all his culture gathered until than (to allow conquest victory).

Thanks for any response :)

Culture does not go down, but the added culture per turn goes down when you no longer own that city...
Razing a city counts both as bad for your reputation, and good for the next peace treaty with that nation (which are much more frightened when you raze..).

About domination limits, I think I saw over 4400 in some threads, but I don't huge (YET!)

3900 isn't bad for continents. The 4000+ counts are usually archipelago.
