HOF IV Update Discussion

I'm already on it. No problem though, there are 10 lines on a table to fill ;).
edit: I submitted it.
score to beat = 14312.
Now going for huge emperor marathon.

Sorry, I should not post when I'm deliriously tired. I meant Huge, Marathon. :crazyeye:

Edit: Finished the game. 12619 was my score. Neither of my games have been accepted yet, so still not 100% secure, though I had no crashes during my games.
Edit2: Games accepted!

well done!
looks like there will be no more empty tables in the next update !
I have started the huge marathon one too.
I will finish it since I'm halfway done, but now I can risk a bit more :)

Wow, you guys are machines!

A grain of sand entered the machine.
Asset problem again, no way to finish the huge emperor marathon game.
good thing babaBrian finished it already :)

No news from The_Hawk and his run against Large Epic Emperor time.
I can't see him losing a second time, so I will try for the cultural gauntlet next thing.

cabert, what type of games will you play after last empty slot will be fill?
I already started beating the most obvious "fillers" (= not really good dates on not really difficult tables).
When the tables are filled, we all can start playing a bit more "competitive", like you and your astonishing space victories :goodjob:.

Speaking of space victories, in the past I hardly played them since I royally stunk at them, but of late I have caught the space colony bug and have been trying to improve my space skills on the easier settings. I can only seem to pull of 1500s and 1600s wins at best, so I still am making quite a few mistakes. Are there any good write ups on getting a pre-1000AD win? That is my personal goal right now.

I think Dynamic was the first to do a pre-1000 AD win on a speed other than marathon. He might still be the only one.

Strange... It was challenge game without huts and with Barbs, so Epic speed should allow pre-1000AD Settler win on any maps I think.
For other levels it looks like any difficulty allows pre-1000AD Marathon win on small-large maps, but, of course, for high levels it's real challenge. ;)

There are several common ways (Cottage+Mining, Specialists and Hammer-economy) to the stars but I can't point to the writeups. Every way has it's strong and weak sides. Final choose depends on map type and size, difficulty level and players prefenence.
The easiest way for low-levels is Hammer-economy:
1-3 Cottage city for boosting science in the first half of the game, then go for Biology/Communism then Factories+Plants and produsing Welth+Science via Hammers.
Optionally National Park with National Epic in the high Forested/Jungled city.
This way doesn't require any special grait persons and allow fast growing new cities at the second half of the game.
Negative side is problem with AI Emancipation for levels above Monarch.

Large Epic Emperor Time has been submitted.

What's left?

here is what I noted:
Immortal Standard Normal,
Large Epic Emperor,
Standard Immortal Epic by The-Hawk

Huge Marathon Emperor,
Large Marathon Emperor by babaBrian

Huge Epic emperor,
Large Epic immortal,
huge quick immortal by Cabert

That's 8!
yep, it's all done!

I'll show the balloons when I see the published tables all nicely filled :)

For the purists, there are tables with empty lines, since I only looked for empty #1s ;)

Since Cabert's mission to fill all number one spots is complete, I thought it would be fun to post some additional HOF stats for us to track.

Attached is a text file that hopefully provides quite a bit of useful and/or enjoyable information.

Among other things, it breaks down the game totals by civ, leader, difficulty, etc., etc. And, finally, I know exactly how full the HOF is.

One other interesting thing is that the total HOF entries tallied on the civfanatics Statistics page do not include games that are in the tables only for score. So that is the explanation for why my counts are slightly higher.

I plan to expand the stats. One goal is to compute the total number of turns for all games in #1 spots. Over time, it will be cool to see that number decrease as better dates are posted. I plan to make the same calcuations for spots #2 - #10, treating empties as the max number of turns.

Let me know if any other stats or calculations would be of interest. Not making any promises, but I'll see what I can do.

Also, this is my first ever attachment and it looks like after a few HOF updates I'll exceed my attachment memory limits. Is there a standard way that people link to larger amounts of data? I could post to a blog or something.

Anyway, enjoy the stats!

Now there are a lot of spots filled with a single entry which would be probably very easy to beat. Or at least second place is guarantied.

Wouldn't that be interesting?

A very interesting read! I was surprised that Churchill was the least popular Leader, and that probably has partly to do with his Protective trait. I would think there would be at least one Leader more unpopular, since Charismatic, Protective and Red Coats would be a good combination for Quick/Normal speed Domination/Conquest, etc.

We probably should revise Elite Quattromasters to require all Leaders except Huayna Capac. So instead of requiring 33 Empires be played, we require 53 Leaders be played. It's only 20 more games, right? ;)

Much more fun can be made of the statistics, too.

Muchos thanks babaBrian!

Tallyho,

nice stats babaBrian!
Where did you get those?

Thanks. I wrote three Python scripts. One to extract the raw data from the HOF pages, one to distill the raw data to a more uniform and condense database, and then a final one to calculate stats based on the database.

I just submitted 900AD Small Normal Speed Settler Space Colony. It was very non-optimal one: bad map (No Gold, almost No Forests), my stupid mistakes (too late MM, 4th GA after launch, forget to connect Iron for Iron works till start building SS Parts). So at least 1 century could be shaved. I'm not sure pre-1000AD Quick Speed SC is possible... But may be I will try. I just need to choose between Pacal and Gandhi...
