Hi everyone, I am new to this website so I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place. This certainly seems like the right place though, so I shall now pester you with my problems. :)

- I am running Windows 7 (64 bit).
- I am running the Steam versions of Vanilla, Warlords and BTS.
- I am running the following Civilization versions:
  • Vanilla: 1.7.4.0
  • Warlords: 2.1.3.0
  • BTS: 3.1.9.0
- I am running the following HOF/BUFFY versions:
  • Vanilla: 1.74.004
  • Warlords: -
  • BTS: 3.19.003
I have not tried running the mod under Warlords, but for both Vanilla and BTS I have done the following.

1. I enter the game.
2. I load the Buffy/HOF mods from the mod list.
3. Instead of Civilization loading up the mod I get the following error window.

Now I followed the advice given and went to the help page for Vista and Windows 7.

The first thing I did was go through a) of the 1. File Permissions part but that did not fix my problem. I still kept on getting the error window shown above.

I then tried changing the compatability mode and administrator settings but Steam simply gave me this error window once I tried running the game afterwards.

Perhaps all my problems stem from trying to play the mod through Steam versions of Civ.

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to fix my problem with the 'save settings' error shown in the first screenshot. I'm no good at this game, but perhaps I'd still want to participate in some xOTMs in the future. This error would obviously make that impossible.

Problem solved.

It seems to be a problem with either Steam or Windows 7, but simply changing the 'Administrator' settings on the Civilization .exe files does nothing. Actually, it does something worse than nothing, by spamming you with that nasty 'Failed to find Steam' window!

What I had to do was to exit Steam and then change the administrator settings on Steam itself. In short, to run the HOF mods on Steam I had to run Steam itself in Administrator mode. :p

I bet this runs every single Steam app in administrator mode though, so perhaps there are better ways to handle this. Either way, I hope this is helpful to others who might run into the same problem. Who knows, this might pop up quite a bit with [civ5] being sold on Steam from day 1 and Windows 7 becoming more and more popular.

I'm glad you were able to solve your problem. Hopefully this means we will see you in the HoF. If you haven't already, please also check out the games of the month.
