You did patch Vanilla to 1.74, didn't you?
Yes, and 2.13 for Warlords.

oops double post

ronnie, try running the HOF mod for BtS in a game...my mod loads fine, but crashes when I try to actually start a game.

Everything is working fine for me now with the huge exception SGOTM 5.
I am still getting the "Runtime Error" when I try to load an 05 save file.

I have downloaded and installed the direct x file upgrade.

I have downloaded and installed all of the patches and mods.

I can still use my old windows XP machine (for SGOTM 5), but I would really like to use my new comp and wide screen monitor.

I can load and run any mod on all three game variants except SGOTM 5.

If SGOTM 5 is 1.74, then you might try the security fix in this post. If it is 1.61, you'll have to stick with your old machine unless you want to set up a dual install.

SGOTM 5 is 1.74. It uses a variant of the 1.74 HoF Mod, modded and recompiled by Gythaar to cope with the barbarians as a team that can win.

@Ronnie:

1. Can you start a new random game with the SGOTM 5 HoF Mod loaded?

2. Is the SGOTM 5 HoF Mod installed in exactly the same location as the 1.74 HoF Mod?

3. Does the SGOTM 5 HoF Mod folder have exactly the same owner and permissions as the standard 1.74 HoF Mod?

EDIT: Does anyone know what the following message means? "You have selected an unusable voice capture device. Voice capture disabled"

I've gotten the "voice capture" problem before (on XP). I think the only way I could fix it was to uninstall and do a complete reinstall. I never really did figure out what was going on.

It is not a dual install issue. SGOTM 5 is 1.74, it works fine on my old machine w/o a dual install. The issue seems to be associated with the Vista operating system. I tried the fix you suggested (thank you), but it had no effect, so sad.

Open the path to the SGOTM 05 mod in windows explorer and send us a screenshot of the tree.

I recall that I ended up with a redundant folder for that install, as I made a folder for it, and the install made one as well, so I had a path HOF-1.74.SGOTM05 > HOF-1.74.SGOTM05 > , and the mod would not work until I got rid of the extra folder layer.

Thanks dV, that got the game to load, but now I lost the interface. I tried alt+I and shift+I and ctrl+I with no luck, but I am getting closer.

Moderator Action: Removed SGOTM5 pics (spoilers)

That prolly means there are Python errors. Enable Python debug alerts in the .ini file and see what comes up?

How do I do that?

You have to change you CivilizationIV.ini file. There is one in each version in your "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4", "My Documents\My Games\Warlords", etc. folders.

; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 0

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

; Overwrite old network and message logs
OverwriteLogs = 1

; Enable message logging
MessageLog = 1

Zip up and post the three Python*.log files from "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\logs" folder

Now I get a string of python init errors and the game never loads. I'm going to uninstall and start over.

What were the errors? They should have been recorded in the logs folder. If you upload the 3 python*.log files we can figure out why it is failing.

@Denniz: deleting my entire My Games\Beyond the Sword folder seems to have done the trick.

I started a new game without the mod, then loaded the mod and was able to actually start a game in it :eek: Then I changed it after that to windowed mode, and was able to start a game compatible with the beta gauntlet settings. :woohoo: :dance: [party] :band: :banana:

However, either deleting that folder uninstalled Blue Marble, or the HOD mod disabled blue marble when I loaded it.

Well, that is good news! :goodjob:

Hm, maybe Blue Marble updated the ini file with something. I suppose you could try reinstalling...
