From Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force
General Dwight D Eisenhower confirmed that American forces were in control of the former Vichy held city of Marseilles after a brief period of fighting. Joining our British and Soviet allies on mainland Europe has now been accomplished. Much hard fighting lies ahead, but the end result must be victory for the Allied cause.

    Monthly report details
BB Mississippi bombards Marseilles. Livorno Division ¾
    BB Arkansas fires, no effect
BB Texas fires, Livorno Division ¼
US 6th Marine Division (2/5) destroys Livorno Division.
BB New York fires on regular flak ½
US Marines kill ½ flak. Marseilles has fallen to American forces.
P-51 attacks fortress div near Paris no effect
HB attacks fortress div 2/4 same
HB attacks fortress div ¼ same
    HB destroys road same
HB attacks 708th Div SE of Cherbourg. Other road destroyed in vicinity.

Good thing the Port Harcourt forces were taking their pills.

Too bad about the Hollandia garrison. OTOH, it's not like they were at the center of the war effort.

Well played Lanz! You have the tactical victory to be sure! I wonder what effect your move will have on the eastern front? Sometimes sacrifices are made for a great good.....But as I said...A very successful counterattack!

Argh! I didn't think you'd be able to reach Thessaloniki this turn. Well played though, it looks like Italy may end up in Russian hands rather than British or American ones.

The Russians urged the Americans to practice restraint in light of the ease with which the British were driven off the continent. Then OKH let it slip that the Brits and Americans were "mollycoddled"? And that they should "keep it coming."

That was enough for Eisenhower to take the leash off George Patton.

US 8th Air Force pounded road and rail installations once again in the French countryside. Three squadrons of B-17s were downed by the alert 88 gunners with their radar-controlled heavy flak guns. Guderian's depleted Panzerarmee with a supported panther korps came on the receiving end of a maelstrom of ordinance courtesy of the mollycoddled flyboys. Both Wehrmacht units were reduced to a shell. Additionally two infantry korps received the same dose of 500 and 1000 pound bombs, wrecking those formations in the Bordeaux sector.

US III Armored Corps (Sherman 6/7) assaulted Bordeaux, liberating the city from its 1hp defender. US IV Armored Corps (Sherman 6/6) overrran the second German infantry korps.
Behind them was US 3rd Army consisting of Sherman tank corps. The first Panther Korps was cleanly dispatched, then it was Guderian's turn. His armee immediately vanished in the attack. US 3rd Army (11/12)

Another attempt to "keep it coming" is offered by the bomber squadrons of Carl Spaatz's Mighty 8th which flattened a fortress division and US 3rd Army polished off 1hp 11th Infantry Korps.

The February offensive wound down as a parachute unit destroyed a radar controlled flak and destroyed a construction brigade in the process.

As the American offensive was begun in Europe, the Pearl Harbor return engagement also was launched.
