Did Lanz send his PW to Muz or Bow to play his turn???
Muz and Bow....are either of you going to play Lanz's turn or are we closing shop on this game for the summer???
I tranfered the save file to bowsling,
I don't remember Lanz PW
time for Admin pw, i hope Eric not on vacation also...
Lanz will be back in 3 days, so it's not the end of the world if nobody can take his turn.
I don't believe I have his password. I will look, but even if I don't find it, I doubt I will have the time.
3 days? i have no problem with that....
This is the negative side of Civ 3 Online play. Too few players...playing too many games to give due attention. When has anyone here played an online game to completion? This game should be completed within a year despite its complexity. The problem is as I said first....too few players playing too many games.
Feel free to wake me from hibernation when appropriate. ANd if sometime....some are wanting to play a fast paced game of HOF then do poke me awake! Otherwise..I remain in deep sleep.
Best to all!
I wonder if this type of game would run more smoothly with fewer players ... P1 is CW + Minor Allies, P2 is Germany + Minor Axis, and P3 is the Soviet Union and USA.
Maybe a special PBEM version with:
- P1 - CW + Minor Allies
- P2 - Germany + Minor Axis
- P3 - Soviet Union
- P4 - USA
- P5 - Japan
- Nature - AI.
Could be interesting also....but to join Germany to Minor Axis you would have to make Russia a bit more powerfull, more cities at least...
I would make it even smaller with P1 adding the US so that we would need only 4 people. And you could add balence by having P3 playing Russia and the Minor Allies, then P1 has the US & CW. I think 4 players would be faster in all regards.
I'm game to try this out and would like either the US&CW or Japan.
And I would suggest the following changes which is a MAJOR one but I think most necessary. I suggest;
1) On the November turn that all US ships/SSs at sea are free to move half their movement points. US ships cannot enter the South China Sea. Nor may any troops be withdrawn from the Phillipines. US CV & Surface Battle Groups at sea in the Central Pacific are free to make full movement. Ships in port at Pearl Harbor may not move until they are attacked.
2) Same applies to the CW ships/SS in the Malaysia area. And the Prince of Wales and Repulse battle group start in port at Singapore but free to move in November.
3) All CW & German ships in the North Atlantic, North Sea, Channel, & Mediterrean areas are free to move full movement and engage in offensive ops in November.
4) British & German Air Units are free to conduct all types of offensive/defensive air ops in the November turn.
5) Same applies to Minor Allies in China
The rationale for these changes are for;
1&2: Allowing half movement eliminates the sitting duck nature that allows the Japanese player exact knowledge of Allied ships/SS location at the start of the game. They never had this type of intel and is a civ limitation because of the .biq. And full movement of the US CV Battle Groups follows the historical use. The basing of the PoW & Repulse Battle Group in port also reflects historical realities.
3&4: There should be no restriction in CW & German units on the November 1941 turn. They were already at war!
5: Same as the Chinese were already at war with Japan so should be allowed full movement and air ops in Novemeber.
And finally about Nature. I would significantly reduce the defensive rating of ALL nature units to 1. The beauty of nature is its ability to pop up out of nowhere and do damage. But once located/contacted they should be dealt with easily. I would make Nature a non-human player in our games. BUT I think it would be best to have a non-player in the game actually set up and start the game but not play Nature. This gets the game set up and started without any of the active players having to do so.
Another suggestion I'd like to see implemented is to have the Naval Shipyards act like a Barracks does in healing units in one turn.
Finally, CW cities in England need to be reviewed as to the presence of improvements. Some of the cities don't have a Police Station and there were some others as well.
I really feel these suggestions can breathe new life into HOF. Particularly removing the "scripted" Japanese attacks against allied ships at sea on the December turn.
I'm up for trying this changes in a new game when practical. And I'd like the US/CW alliance or the Japanese.
Sorry, between packing, counting the kids and fixing the bikes, apparently I completely forgot sending a reminder-mail with my PWD to my allies...
(But I had send them my PWD sometime at the beginning of the game... )
I guess, now I can play as well myself, and will do so tomorrow morning.
(@aksully: don't worry, of the 10 or so games I've played since starting PBEM, only one did not complete (Theater of War), the rest look pretty well!)
