I'm really interested in taking this questionnaire. But is the first option "Strongly Agree" or "Strongly Disagree"?

Origionally posted by OP Translation
neoliberals are elites feeding on the communist

Free market = feeding on others? Try the other way around (Marx = feeding on others, "from each his ability to each his need"). Does child slave labor = from ability to need?

I'd like to see a deciphering of the US political compass.

ps. Good luck with freedom in China.

pps. Would you support a US military overthrow of the Chinese government if it resulted in democracy?

Most of Chinese economists (neo-liberals) are professionals working in government agencies and state-owned academies. Thus "feeding on communist party/tax payers".

Actual merchants/businessmen are neither free-market or collectivism. Edit: I lied. They're slightly pro-market but also whining about the fake market economy that filled with scandal and insider trading.

re: your pps: I would. But it seems impossible to me.

I'm really interested in taking this questionnaire. But is the first option "Strongly Agree" or "Strongly Disagree"?

Good question.

The most left choice is "strong disagree"

When you finish the 50th question, click on a nameless button below.

The answers (on the next line) are three scores, Political(Libertarian+), Economic(neoliberal+), Culture(liberalism+). All in (-2, +2) range.

The next chart of six graphs is the result of the test in two BBSes.

So...

0.4 (Chinese Libertarian)
1.4 (Neoliberal)
-0.3 (Conservatism)

Fair enough. I just need some other people to post their scores so I can have some sort of reference range.

re: your pps: I would. But it seems impossible to me.

I didn't mean to be cruel or flippant with my "ps.":

ps. Good luck with freedom in China.

I feel the same way.

Sorry; our bad.

I don't mean to be presumptious in knowing what's best for you, but I recommend another Tianimen []. Perhaps the world will not forget so quickly the next time.

My cruel and unaldertarated point: there can be no political compass in the absence of political freedom.

1. If the mass are not educated with democratic ideas/doctrines, universal suffrage should not be given.
Strongly agree.
2. It is disappointing that economists in China are now a bunch of spokespersons of the rich elites.
Disagree.
3. Human rights above sovereignty.
Disagree.
4. No blame laid on consensual adult pre-marriage sex.
Strongly agree. It's the 21st century already fer crying out loud!
5. The elites take away much of the economic growth these years, the majority don't enjoy much of the benefits.
Agree, but you and I know that this can't be helped. Anyway what needs to be done is to ensure more "trickle down" effect.
6. The government should not block information flows of a large-scale event such as earthquake, famine or epidemics, even some of the information may causes riots and mass disorder.(ie.SARS)
Disagree but with conditions. Natural calamities, plague, disaster, huge accidents... these should indeed be made public. The benefits of releasing information will far outweigh the harm (precautions could be taken by people in case of SARS for example). What information I agree should be censored are news of riots elsewhere, sabotage, terrorist activity and the reactive military operations following that...
7. Social interest comes before individual interest in large projects. (ie.Three Gorges Dam)
Strongly agree.
8. Western style multi-party/bi-party system doesn't apply in China.
Agree. Just look at Hongkong or Taiwan where all that energy is spent in endless bickering that results in nothing. However things might change in the future. Future Chinese might just find some way to make it work. Thus I did not vote "Strongly agree".
9. No criticism should be laid publicly (via talks, blogs, etc.) against one's own elder relatives.
Strongly agree. It's simply bad form. Curse them in private if you wish.
10. It is individual liberty to waste food (and consumer goods).
Strongly disagree! When I see these kind of people I get violent urges.
11. Social disorder would happen if Western style freedom of speech is applied in China.
Agree. Just look at Chinese internet forums.
12. Confucianism is needed in a modernized China.
Agree but we have to be selective about it. Some of it is good (civility, respect to elders, humility etc.) but some other aspects of it we can do without (blind obedience, conservatism, abuse of authority etc.)
13. Higher tax rate for riches (grader system) should be implanted in order to improve social justice.
Strongly agree. They can afford it anyway. :D
14. Colleges and universities would better pick applicants with university-specific examinations, rather than a homogeneous nation/province wide examination.
Agree.
15. Higher tariff should be applied in order to protect domestic industries.
Agree but only on specific items that indeed need protecting.
16. Religious priests, monks, etc. should be allowed to preach freely outside temples, churches, mosques etc. in the public.
Disagree. I feel the current set-up is good enough. If I feel like praying I can take the trip, but while walking down the street I'm free from unwelcome pestering.
17. Works of art aren't worthless when there're people enjoying it and buying it.
Strongly agree. Yeah I'll let my dog play with some paint and a canvas then try to sell the result. :D
18. Foreign investment must be limited, and it's growth should be monitored. No laissez-faire for foreign capitals.
Agree I guess. You never want anything going out of control.
19. Nation wide military training should be mandatory for primary, secondary and college students.
Strongly agree.
20. State-owned and collective property (village's public property etc.) should be protected prior to individual property.
Strongly agree.
21. Government intervention of the price of real estate is dangerous economically and socially.
Agree. And what's more, it's futile!
22. Sovereignty and territorial integrity have the first priority to be protected, since it is the ultimate interest of the whole society.
Strongly agree.
23. In order to improve life standard of the poor, state welfare (money assistantships, discount of taxes and such) is the best tool.
Agree.
24. The western world led by US view China as their ultimate enemy, they wouldn't allow or tolerate China to grow up to a super-power.
Agree. Because it is but the nature of states. Any nation in a position of power will never allow a weaker nation (even an ally) to catch up, much less overtake it. Of all people us Civ players should know this gospel truth!
25. It is individual liberty to decide his/her family size.
Agree.
26. Although competitions may reduce the value of the state-owned industries, they should not be specially protected. (No privilege to state-owned property)
Strongly agree. They get enough advantages already...
27. An official news agency should be set up to represent people's interests, and such role should be guaranteed. (Xinhua News Agency)
Agree I guess.
28. People with high income should publish sources of their income regularly.
Strongly disagree! How I earn my damn money is none of anybody else's gaddamn business! Not even my girlfriend or my mother!
29. Leaders of China could appear on the comics.
Agree. I'd love to see this.
30. Zhou-yi (A famous ancient book of China, which is about fortune-telling and predictions, similar to astrology) is an digest of Chinese ancestor's wisdom, which can effectively explains and predicts many events.
Agree I guess.
31. Robin Hood style is justified.
Strongly disagree! The nerve... :hammer:
32. When laws fail to deliver enough punishment to deter/stop crimes, extreme methods against crimes should be tolerated. (Lynching)
Disagree. Citizen's arrest is okay, but not summary executions.
33. Chinese traditional/herbal medicine has some advantages that modern medicine couldn't possibly match.
Agree.
34. Instead of letting state-owned or collectively owned installment go bankruptcy, selling them to private owners would be better. (Privatizing)
Strongly agree.
35. The state doesn't have obligation of international aid.
Agree, but in some situations there might be strategic advantages to giving such aid, while in some other instances humanitarian pressure might be so overwhelming it would simply be unthinkable not to give aid.
36. Key industries should be state controlled. (Petroleum, Telecommunication, Aviation, Military industries etc.)
Strongly agree.
37. If the state power allowed, China should use any means possible to protect her interests.
Disagree, especially if said means would result in harm to some other people or nation.
38. TV stations should make high-standard programs instead of pursuing rates.
Strongly agree.
39. The accumulation of capital is deprivation of average people.
Strongly disagree. That's just communist sloganeering. Not every boss is like those illegal brick kiln slavemasters. There are some factory owners who pay their workers decently. Decent enough that said workers can go build a house in their native village after a few years. Now is that "deprivation of average people"?
40. We should attack Taiwan when military strength allows, no mercy for Taiwanese.
Strongly disagree. This question is just stupid. There will be other ways in the future to reunify the land....
41. Using classical (Confucius, Lao Tse etc.) materials as children's books is plausible.
Strongly agree.
42. Even when crisis or depression happened, there should be no way back to the pre-Deng era.
Strongly agree.
43. Nationalized the military.
If you mean make it a true nation's army instead of a particular party's private army then hell yes Strongly Agree.
44. Government should buy foods from peasant with a higher price to protect agriculture.
Disagree. They would then have to sell it higher somewhere else, resulting in inflation. And where where they get the money to buy overpriced agricultural goods? Why from the taxpayers that's who. So it's ultimately pointless.
45. Allow dual-citizenship for those oversea Chinese who obtain a foreign citizenship.
Agree.
46. Homosexuals should not be discriminated or marginalized.
Agree.
47. No need to develop equivalents of products which are available in the world market.
Disagree. (1) You never know when that market will be cut off. (2) Your product could eventually compete with the original (3) technology spin-offs
48. Even if the trials and evidences are flawed, severe criminals should still receive capital punishment when the crime itself should be dealt with death penalty according to the law.
Strongly agree. Off with their heads!
49. Government should not intervene the price of agricultural products (reducing it).
Disagree. Food is the backbone of any society. If its prices go up then everything else goes up. Inflation results. One of the reasons for China's progress is its ridiculously cheap food. Big difference when you're spending only 10% of your income on food rather than 25%.
50. the state should use more fund on athletic projects, to produce more medals in international competitions.
Yeah agree I guess.

My results say:
-0.25 Authoritarianism
-0.1 Collectivism
-0.3 Conservatism
Me scared of myself. :scared:

@...: Reverse your score: If you're airdropped in China, you're a political dissent, economic free-marketer and culturally westernized guy.

Edit: BirraImperial: Your score means you're a political moderate, economic slightly liberal, and culturally a bit more traditional.

Edit: Japanrocks12: You're political dissent, economic moderate and culturally westernized if you are here.
